YORK, Pa. - The No. 9 York women's lacrosse team will be hosting first and second contests of the NCAA DIII Women's Lacrosse Championship on Saturday, May 9 and Sunday, May 10 at Kinsley Field.
The weekend schedule at Kinsley Field is as follows:
Saturday, May 9
Game 1: Farmingdale State vs. Wooster - 12 p.m.
Sunday, May 10
Game 2: Winner of Game 1 vs. #9 York - 1 p.m.
The Spartans (15-4), ranked 14th in the NCAA NPI rankings, received a first-round bye as the pod's top seed. They will face the winner of the Farmingdale State vs. Wooster on Sunday in a second-round contest. York earned their automatic qualification into the NCAA postseason by defeating #15 Messiah, 11-5, in the Commonwealth title game for their fifth-straight conference crown.
Farmingdale State (9-9) clinched an automatic berth into the NCAA Championship with a 10-8 victory over U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in the Skyline title game.
Wooster (16-2) grabbed an at-large berth into the NCAA tournament as the Fighting Scots are ranked 16th in the NCAA NPI selection rankings. Wooster is making their eight NCAA postseason appearance and history last year by winning their first game in the national tournament. The Scots finished runner-up to No. 6 Denison in the North Coast Athletic Conference title game, falling 19-10. Both of Wooster's losses this season have come to the Big Red.
York is making their 13th NCAA postseason appearance and their sixth as an automatic qualifier. The Green and White is 16-12 all-time in the NCAA tournament since first qualifying with an at-large berth in 2012. The Spartans have advanced as far as the national quarterfinals five times. York is 9-1 when competing on their home turf in NCAA postseason play.
York is 1-0 all-time versus Farmingdale State with the Spartans claiming a 17-6 victory on April 5, 2008. The Spartans are 0-1 against Wooster as the Scots defeated York, 5-3, on March 14, 2009.
