#9 Women’s Lacrosse Advances to NCAA Third Round Following Victory Over Wooster

YORK, Pa. - The No. 9 York women's lacrosse team will be moving past the NCAA Second Round for the eighth time in program history following a 14-7 victory over the Wooster on Saturday at Kinsley Field.

Team Records
Wooser: 17-3
#9 York: 16-4

Highlights
Both offenses sputtered out of the gates as a Riley Coltenback tally stood as the only goal in the first quarter. Wooster goalie Audrey Richardson made life difficult for York's offense through the first 15 minutes as she stopped eight of the first nine shots the Spartans put on target.

The script changed drastically in the second quarter as the two teams combined for 11 goals with York owning a 7-4 advantage to take a 8-4 halftime lead. Krista Yarusso fueled the Spartans offense with four points in the quarter on one goal and three assists, while Lizzie Hardy tallied a pair to lead the Wooster offense.

York took control of the game with a third-quarter shutout and held the Fighting Scots scoreless for over 19 minutes as the Spartans carried an 11-4 lead into the fourth quarter. Wooster did not go away quietly as they broke their scoring drought with three-straight goals, including a pair by Brynne Snaguski, to cut the York lead to four with 6:56 left.

Sydney Mentzer responded for York 50 seconds later with her fourth goal of the day and ended a 15-minute scoring drought by the Spartans. The Green and White tacked on two more goals in the final six minutes for good measure and to seal the win.

Seniors Metzner, Juliana Silvernale and Yarusso powered the York offense with five points each on the day. Maddie Ross led the draw unit with four draw controls. Audrey Simoes backstopped the Spartan defense with nine saves as she held the second-best scoring offense in the country to a season-low seven goals.

Up Next
