Bastress Tagged MAC Women’s Wrestling Coach of the Year

NEWTOWN, Pa. - York College wrestling head coach Duane Bastress has been named the MAC Women's Wrestling Co-Coach of the Year as the Middle Atlantic Conference announced their inaugural major awards for women's wrestling on Wednesday.

Bastress led the Spartans to the team title at the inaugural MAC Women's Wrestling championship as they edged out by four points. At the championship tournament, three Spartans captured individual titles with a total of eight York wrestlers earning all-conference honors as they finished in the top-three in their respective weight classes.

The 2025-26 season was another successful campaign for the York women's program as a whole in just the third season of existence. The Spartans compiled a dual record of 8-3 and had a pair of wrestlers - Peyton Fries and Maura White - qualify for the inaugural NCAA Women's Wrestling Championship.

In just three seasons, Bastress, with the aid of assistant coach Brian Gross, took a brand new program and turned it into a national competitor amongst the Division III ranks. York has compiled a three-year dual record of 21-10 to go along with one individual regional champion and a total of nine national tournament qualifications.
