Fries, White Conclude Season on Day One of NCAA Women’s Wrestling Nationals

CORALVILLE, Iowa - York College women's wrestlers Peyton Fries and Maura White saw their national tournament runs come to close on day one of the  2026 NCAA National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships.

Fries went 2-2 on the day and advanced to session two where she saw her national tournament appearance end in the "Blood Round" on Friday evening. The 10th seeded Spartan sophomore finished one win away from a podium appearance and earning All-American status as she lost to eighth-seed Maia Aiono (Presbyterian), 12-2.

Fries began her day with a fall (1:32) against unseeded Jasmin Ocamp (Carthage) in a preliminary round bout. She then suffered a loss to seventh-seed Josephine Larson (SHU) in the first round before pinning 15th-seed Zaria Robinson (Mount Olive) in 58 seconds in consolation round one and eventually falling to Aiono.

The two victories by Fries are the most by a Spartan women's wrestler at a national championship tournament. She ended her season with a record of 30-7 and is the third different wrestler in program history to record a 30-win season, joining teammates Gisele Ramirez and White in that elite company.

White saw her tournament come to an end in session one after back-to-back losses. The 12th-seed Spartan opened the day with a 15-8 loss to fifth-seed Jacinda Espinosa (Lindenwood) in round one before suffering a heartbreaking 8-7 loss to ninth-seed Ruby Julien-Newsom (King) in a consolation preliminary round tilt.

The Spartan junior capped her season with a record of 35-7 which established a new program single-season wins record, surpassing her own previous record of 32 from last year. White is the program's career wins leader with 87 in three seasons. She also finished this season ranked top-10 in the nation with a career-best 21 falls.

Fries and White will return next season in hopes of delivering the Spartan program its first All-American honor.
