Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 ST. DAVIDS, PA – The York College baseball squad scored 24 runs in 16 innings on Friday afternoon during their MAC Commonwealth twinbill at Eastern. Unfortunately for York, that offensive output was only good enough to garner a split. The Spartans won game one 14-0 but the Eagles salvaged a split with a 16-10 win in the game two slugfest.
The Spartans are now 20-4 overall and 15-3 in the league while the Eagles are 7-13 overall and 6-8 in the Commonwealth.

How It Happened
• The Spartans got rolling early as Jayden Cowan and Luke Turner drew back-to-back walks to lead off the game. Turner was erased on a fielder's choice to put Spartans at the corners. Jack Barry then scored Cowan with an infield single to open the scoring. Joe Capobianco made it 2-0 with an RBI single to left. After a fly out to left, Brandon White launched a three-run homer to left, giving York a 5-0 lead after half an inning of play.
• York tacked on a pair of runs in the second as Turner walked and Austin Denlinger followed with a two-run shot to left center, his seventh home run of the year.
• The Spartan offense kept rolling in the third inning. Cowan reached on an error and Turner drew his third walk of the game. Denlinger singled home Cowan to push the lead to 8-0. Barry then launched a three-run bomb to left center, scoring Denlinger and Turner for the 11-0 Spartan advantage.
• The Green and White tacked on a single run on a Brian Jakubek sacrifice fly in the fourth, scoring Craig Wiley who had walked to open the inning. Jakubek was a part of the Spartans' 13th run in the sixth as White doubled down the left field line and scored when Jakubek singled to third base and the throw got away from the first baseman, allowing White to score. The Green and White tacked on the final run of the game with a Robby Elzinga RBI double in the seventh inning.
• The offensive outburst was more than enough for ace Brandon Haggerty as the senior lefty tossed six shutout innings, striking out nine, walking one and scattering four hits. Teegan Starr tossed the final frame to preserve the shutout.
