Box Score 2 FREDERICK, MD – The York College baseball team completed a series sweep of Hood on Sunday as they captured the final two games of the series on Sunday afternoon in Frederick, Maryland.
The Spartans won game one 8-4 thanks to a huge third inning and completed the sweep with a 2-0 two-hit shutout victory in the nightcap.
The Spartans, winners of eight straight, improve to 18-2 overall and 14-2 in the MAC Commonwealth. The Blazers fall to 4-14 overall and 2-10 in the Commonwealth.

How It Happened:
• The Spartans got everything they needed with an eight run third inning. The Green and White scored the eight runs on nine hits. The inning started with a Brian Jakubek single up the middle. Jayden Cowan followed with a single of his own. Luke Turner scored Jakubek with a single to center, giving York the 1-0 lead. Austin Denlinger loaded the bases with a single to center. Senior Jack Barry, the MAC leader in RBIs, drilled a double down the right field line to score two. After Joe Capobianco walked to load the bases, Jimmy Wiegers launched a grand slam to left field, putting the Spartans up 7-0 with no outs in the inning. After the Blazers got a pair of outs, Jakubek singled for the second time in the inning and eventually came around to score on a second Turner base hit, giving York the 8-0 lead.
• Hood got single runs in the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings but starter Robert Chaney was able to avoid the big inning and make the big inning stand up for the victory.

How It Happened:
• The Spartans got on the board in the first as Austin Denlinger reached on a fielder's choice and moved to second on an error. Denlinger came around to score on a Jack Barry two-out single to right. The Spartans would load the bases but Hood starter Jacob Howell was able to get out the inning without any further damage.
• York got the game's only other run in the fourth as sophomore Brendan Martin blasted his first collegiate home run with a round tripper over the left field wall.
• Sophomore Zach Reed made his first collegiate start a memorable one as he made the two runs stand up as he threw eight shutout innings to pick up his first collegiate win. Reed allowed two hits and struck out four as he made the start in place of normal fourth starter Josh Mann.

The Spartans improve to 4-0 all-time against Hood … the 18-2 start to the season is best start in program history … the 1974 team was 17-3 to start their campaign while the 2007 and 2009 teams both started their campaigns 16-4 … the Spartan eight game win streak is one game short of their season nine game streak to start the season … senior Conor Miller picked up three saves in the four wins for the Spartans this weekened … Miller now has ten career saves, good for third on the all-time list as he is one save behind Ed Meister in second place and four back of career leader Brandon Ullom … all 11 of Meister's saves came in 2002 as he owns the single season record … the game two shutout was the first Spartan whitewash of the year … the Spartans have hit at least one home run in five straight games … York had ten hits in each of the games on Sunday as they now have 14 games with double figures in hits … York failed to have a double in game two and that's the first time this year they haven't had a two-bagger in a game … senior Jack Barry continues to lead the MAC Commonwealth in runs (25), home runs (7), and RBI (26), while he is third in total bases (52), fifth in hits (27) and batting average (.403) … senior Robert Chaney now has four wins as he is tied for second in the Commonwealth in victories behind teammate Brandon Haggerty who is 5-0 … the Spartans lead the Commonwealth in a number of categories including fielding percentage at .965.

The Spartans return to action on Tuesday as they head to Allentown to face DeSales, the leader of the MAC Freedom, in a big MAC Cross Over contest. First pitch is set for 6:00 pm at DeSales. The Bulldogs are 13-1 overall as they have won 13 straight after losing their first game of the year. DeSales has a three-game lead in the MAC Freedom while the Spartans also lead the MAC Commonwealth by three games over Lebanon Valley. York brings an eight-game win streak into the Tuesday clash.
