ASHLAND, VA – On a day the NCAA cancelled the 2020 spring championships, the York College baseball team got to play one final game. Unfortunately for York, the Spartans had to travel to #2 Randolph-Macon for that game and the Yellow Jackets came away with a 14-1 win.

The loss snaps the Spartans' three-game win streak.

How It Happened

• The Yellow Jackets jumped on the Spartans for a pair of runs in the bottom of the first. Mike Nickles had a sacrifice fly while Shawn Nickles had an RBI single in the frame.

• Randolph-Macon tacked on three runs in the bottom of the third to push their lead to 5-0. Shawn Nickles had a two-run triple in the inning for the Yellow Jackets.

• Randolph-Macon blew the game open in the seventh as they scored seven times to push their lead to 12-0. They got their seven runs on seven hits as they left the bases loaded in the frame.

• After RMC scored two more in the eighth, Spartan lead-off hitter Austin Denlinger blasted a homer to left field as York avoided the shutout. The home run was his second of the year.

The Spartans are now 4-12-2 all-time against the Yellow Jackets as Randolph-Macon has won two straight in the series … the Spartans were held to a season-low two hits … sophomore Austin Denlinger hit York's eighth home run in ten games this year … the Spartan hitters recorded a season-high 11 strikeouts … it is just the second time that York hitters have struck out in double figures … York entered the game having outscored their last three opponents by a combined score of 36-15 … in their five wins, York averaged 12.8 runs per game … In their five losses, the Spartans averaged 2.4 runs per game … York finished 0-4 in true road games for the year.
