How It Happened

• The two starters, York's Elliot Mortimer, and St. Mary's Zach Thompson, took turns throwing up zeros over the first three innings of the game. York had a threat in the first but Thompson snuffed out the chance with a strikeout to end the inning.

• St. Mary's struck for the first runs in the bottom of the fourth and the uprising started when Mortimer already had a pair of outs in the frame. Jay Hammet singled to right field to start the rally. Brandon Snow then doubled to left, scoring Hammet with the game's first run. A Spartan error allowed Snow to score, giving the Seahawks a 2-0 lead. Mortimer hit the next batter and a passed ball put runners at second and third. The Spartan senior right hander ended the threat with a strikeout.

• York got on the board in the top of the fifth as Patrick Clement singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and then scored on a Garrett Southern RBI single to left. Collin Crowell singled to put Spartans at first and second but Thompson got a ground out to end the Spartan threat without any further damage.

• York took a short-lived 3-2 lead in the top of the seventh. Grant Oberholtzer walked and scored on a Clement triple down the left field line. Clement scored the Spartans' third run on a Southern sacrifice fly to right.

• The Seahawks tied the game n the bottom of the seventh on a Dan McCann RBI single to right. That chased Mortimer from the game as the Spartans called on Will Grega. The Spartans' sophomore closer got a strikeout and a ground out to end the inning, stranding Seahawks at second and third.

• York got the game-winning run in the top of the ninth. Devin Chapman banged out a pinch hit single to right to start the inning. Oberholtzer sacrificed Chapman to second. Clement then ripped a ball to right that was ruled an error, allowing Chapman to get to third after Clement hustled his way to second. The Seahawks elected to intentionally walk Southern to load the bases for Crowell. The Spartan shortstop was hit by a pitch on the first pitch of the at-bat, plating Chapman with the go-ahead run. The Spartans let Seahawk pitcher Graham Haliskoe off the hook as the next two Spartans were retired as the Green and White left the bases loaded.

•The ninth inning did not start well for Grega as he walked the lead off hitter and then allowed a bunt single to put the winning run at first base with no outs. He proceeded to strikeout out the side to preserve the one-run win.
