Box Score YORK, PA – The York College baseball team fell in heartbreaking fashion as the #16 Frostburg State University Bobcats tied the game with three runs in the eighth and won the game with two runs in the tenth as FSU stole a 6-5 Capital Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday afternoon in York. The Bobcats improve to 17-7 overall and 9-3 in the CAC as they pull into a first place tie with Salisbury and Marymount. The win was the sixth straight for Frostburg State. York falls to 7-20-1 overall and 5-8 in the conference.
How It Happened:
• York got a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning to seize early control of the game. Collin Crowell led off the frame with single up the middle. Zach Hossler drew a walk to put runners at first and second. Sean Mohollen laid down a beautiful sacrifice bunt and reached on a throwing error to load the bases. Steve Miller plated the game's first run with an RBI single to left field. Seth Brosius then hit into a double play but the second run crossed the plate, giving York the 2-0 lead.
• The Bobcats finally reached freshman righty Will Grega for a single run in the top of the sixth inning. Jamaal Windom doubled just inside the right field line with one out. He moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder's choice to cut the Spartan lead to 3-1.
• York got that run back in the bottom of the sixth on a Clayton Hoff RBI single to center with two outs.
• The Bobcats tied the game in the eighth and they did all the damage with two outs. JT Tipton began the rally with an infield single. K.J. Hockaday then drew a walk. Brad Garrant then singled to center to score Tipton with a run. Hockaday then came around to score when the Spartans misplayed the ball as the lead was cut to 4-3. Designated hitter Zach Keeler singled to left as Garrant moved to second. Garrant came around to score when Connor Cooper singled to left, tying the game at four. Keeler was caught rounding second base to end the inning but not before the run scored.
• Both teams got runners on in the ninth inning but neither team could push across the winning run as the squads headed to extra innings.
• Hockaday began the game-winning rally as he was hit by a pitch. Garrant doubled to left center to give the Bobcats a 5-4 lead. Keeler then stroked a single up the middle to score Garrant as the Bobcats had a two run lead. York was able to turn a double play on an attempted sacrifice bunt followed by a strikeout to get out of the frame without any further damage.
• The Bobcats called on All-American right hander Greg Schneider to come into the game for his first relief outing of the year. Mohollen greeted Schneider with a sharp single to center field. Mohollen moved to second on a wild pitch and scored when Miller stroked a single to center as York had something going. Schneider earned his first save of the year with three consecutive strikeouts to end the game.
