COVINGTON, VA – The York College baseball squad split their third straight Capital Athletic Conference double header Saturday in Covington, Virginia. York split their twin bill with Southern Virginia as York won the opener 10-5 while the Knights won the nightcap 12-2. The Spartans are now 7-15-1 overall and 5-4 in the CAC. The Knights stand at 7-16 overall and 3-6 after the split.

Game One How It Happened: 

• The Spartans opened the scoring in the top of the first as Zach Hossler scored on a Sean Mohollen double down the right field line to put York up 1-0.

• York blew the game wide open with a seven run second inning. York got their first two runs in the frame via errors. The third run came on a Steve Miller bases loaded walk. Seth Brosius then blasted a grand slam as the York lead grew to 8-0.

• York made it 9-0 in the third as Hossler drove in Clayton Hoff with an RBI ground out.

• Southern Virginia got on the board in the bottom of the fourth as they tallied a pair of runs on four hits.

• Each team recorded a single tally in the seventh inning. York's run came on a Collin Crowell RBI single.

• The Knights closed out the scoring with two runs on four hits with one error in the bottom of the ninth.

Notes: York got ten runs on seven hits with two errors while the Knights got five runs on 14 hits with five errors … five of the Spartans' 10 runs were unearned … the 10 runs marked the sixth time this year that York has reached double figures in runs scored while the seven hits were the fewest in a game in which the Spartans had reached double figures in runs … Seth Brosius' grand slam in the second inning was York's second grand slam this year … Joel Kenney now has three of York's seven wins for the year … Kenney's eight inning stint ties his career-high in innings pitched … Kenney has now struck out six or more in three of his six outings this year.

Game Two How It Happened: 

• Southern Virginia jumped all over the Spartans in the bottom of the first as they struck for three runs on four hits and an error to seize early control of the game.

• The Knight's pushed the lead to 7-0 with a four spot in the bottom of the third as they banged out five hits in the inning. Jordan Nase had a two-run single to highlight the inning for SVU.

• Southern Virginia's lead grew to 11-0 as the Knights scored two in the fourth and single runs in the fifth and seventh innings to increase the lead.

• York spoiled the shutout with a run in the top of the eighth as Christian Bilan had a pinch hit RBI double to right center.

• SVU got their final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth. York closed out the scoring with a Sean Mohollen RBI single in the top of the ninth.

Notes: York got two runs on 10 hits with three errors while Southern Virginia had 12 runs on 17 hits with no errors … The loss to Southern Virginia is the first in the six game series between the two teams as York is now 5-1 in the brief history as CAC opponents … York has now lost the second game of all three of their Saturday CAC doubleheaders this spring …. York has three more CAC Saturday doubleheaders on the schedule with trips to Marymount and Mary Washington sandwiching a home twin bill against Salisbury … York has 994 victories in the 48 year history of the program and head coach Mike Scappa has 94 career victories.

What's Next: The Spartans return to action on Monday afternoon when they head to Lancaster to face Franklin & Marshall in a non-conference contest. The game will be played at Clipper Magazine Stadium in Lancaster, PA. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
