YORK, PA – The York College baseball team got a great outing from junior Randy Frankenfield as the Spartans blanked St. Mary's College 8-0 in Capital Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon in York. The Spartans are now 5-10 overall and 3-1 in the league while the Seahawks have lost six straight as they are 4-12 overall and 0-4 in the conference.      

How It Happened: 

• The Spartans used some two out lightening to open the scoring the bottom of the first. Senior Sean Mohollen drew a two out walk and came around to score when fellow senior Steve Miller banged a double off the left field wall, giving York a 1-0 lead.

• The Green and White added to the lead in the second inning. Sophomore Patrick Clement singled to left to open the frame. Luke Knott ripped a double to left field, moving Clement to third. Collin Crowell hit a ground ball to second to score Clement with York's second run. Knott came around to score on Zach Hossler's RBI single to left field.

• Those three runs would be plenty for Frankenfield as he retired the first ten hitters he faced before issuing a walk to Zach Rowe with one out in the fourth. Rowe was wiped out three pitches later as Frankenfield got a double play.

• St. Mary's didn't get their first hit in the game until Luke Kraft singled to right with two outs in the top of the sixth.

• Spartan reliever Scott Steffy ran into trouble as the first two hitters he faced reached base in the top of the seventh but he was able to get a shallow fly out to right, a pop up to second and a strikeout to extricate himself from the jam.

• York put the game out of reach with a five spot in the bottom of the eighth inning. Christian Bilan had an RBI single to start the scoring followed by a two run single to left center from Clement. Knott scored the fourth run of the inning with an RBI ground out while a double steal gave York their fifth run of the inning.

Notes: York got their eight runs on nine hits with no errors while St. Mary's was shutout on four hits while they also had no errors … the shutout is the first for the Spartans since March 23, 2015 when they shutout Southern Virginia 17-0, a span of 42 games … York is now 55-16 all time against St. Mary's … the two runs in the second inning of today's game is the first time York has scored in the second inning in 15 games this year … the win is Frankenfield's first decision of the year despite leaving his first two starts with the lead only to see the bullpen surrender the lead … the three inning save for Steffy is his second three inning save of the year … York is now 5-0 when leading after seven innings … York is now 3-2 on the season-high eight game home stand.

What's Next: The Spartans continue their season-high eight game home stand on Thursday afternoon when they host Susquehanna University in a non-conference contest. Game time at Jaquet Field is set for 3:30 pm.
