DOVER, DEL – The York College baseball team erupted for 27 runs in two games en route to a doubleheader road sweep of Wesley College on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon in Dover, Delaware. The Spartans won game one 20-0 and then completed the sweep with a 7-3 win in the nightcap.

York is now 4-6 overall and 2-3 in the CAC while the Wolverines fall to 5-6 overall and 2-3 in the conference.

The Spartans wasted little time in getting on the board in the top of the first in game one. The uprising was greatly aided by Wolverine starter DJ Keckler as the reigning CAC Rookie-of-the-Year walked the first two batters he faced. He then hit Rick Shumway (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area) with a pitch to load the bases. Mike Connolly (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) popped to short but it was deep enough to score Dustin Worthman (Tabernacle, N.J./Seneca) for the first run. C.T. Stanley (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall College) then jacked a three run homer to left, as the Spartans had a 4-0 lead just four batters into the game.

York kept the pressure on Keckler, scoring two runs in both the second and third innings, finally chasing the Wolverine ace with one out in the top of the third. York blew the game wide open in the fourth with another four spot, increasing the lead to 12-0. The Spartan reserves exploded for eight runs in the top of the seventh highlighted by home runs from Steve Bonitatibus (Maple Glen, Pa./Upper Dublin), Sean Rutherford (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees), and Nicholas Long (North Wildwood, N.J./Wildwood Catholic).

Senior ace Jason Christenberry (Yoe, Pa./Dallastown) was outstanding as he tossed five strong innings to post the win as he improves to 2-1. Christenberry struck out seven, walked one and scattered five hits in his scoreless appearance. Brian Workman (Cherry Hill, N.J./Paul VI) tossed two shutout innings to close out the game for York.

Keckler allowed eight runs on six hits with three walks and a strikeout in his 2.1 innings of work. He falls to 1-2 with the loss. The Wolverine bullpen wasn't much relief for the hosts, allowing 12 runs on 13 hits in the final 4.2 innings of work.

Rob Klinck (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) led the 19-hit Spartan attack as he was 5-for-6 with three runs scored and two RBI. Stanley added three hits, three RBI, and two runs scored while Steve Tretter (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) came off the bench to record two hits, two RBI and a run scored.

Geoff Kimmel and Steven Jacobs each had two hits for the Wolverines.

In the nightcap, the Spartans got off to another great start courtesy of Stanley's bat as the junior jacked a two-run homer in the top of the first to stake starter Andy Rosenzweig (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehanna) to a quick 3-0 lead.

York made it 4-0 in the third as Kyle Cook (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) tripled and scored on a Shumway RBI single.

The Wolverines finally got on the board in the fourth as they reached Rosenzweig for a single run in the frame.

The Spartans answered with single runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to take a 7-1 lead. The Wolverines struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh but KC Beshore (New Cumberland, Pa./Red Land) closed out the game, earning York a pair of critical conference wins.

Rosenzweig earned the victory to improve to 1-2 as he went six innings, allowing a run on five hits with three strikeouts and a walk. Beshore finished the game nabbing the final two outs on 10 pitches including a strikeout.

Michael Bazoge started for Wesley and allowed six runs on nine hits with three walks and two strikeouts in six innings. He falls to 0-2 with the loss. Kyle McGuire threw the final inning, allowing a run on two hits.

Stanley led the Spartans' game two offense, as he was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a run scored.  He now has three home runs this season to lead the Spartans after blasting one in each game. Cook and Shumway each had a pair of hits while Cook dented the plate three times. Connolly was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored.

Bryan Reshetar was the lone Wolverine with multiple hits as he was 2-for-4. Rob Benedict was 1-for-4 with a pair of RBI while Tyler Burns added an RBI single in the fourth.

The Spartans' offensive explosion came at a perfect time. They entered the game having scored 33 runs in their previous eight games. The team batting average rose from .280 to .316 with the day's output.

Today's doubleheader kick starts a grueling seven games in five-day stretch for the Spartans. All but two of those seven games will be on the road as the Spartans don't return to Jaquet Field until Saturday's CAC doubleheader with Stevenson. York travels to Elizabethtown tomorrow for a 3:30 pm non-conference contest.
