YORK, PA – York College junior right-hander Chris Frankenfield (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) made his first collegiate start a memorable one as he tossed a complete game allowing his Spartan baseball team to salvage a Capital Athletic Conference doubleheader split against Wesley College on Saturday afternoon in York. The Wolverines captured game one 6-5 while the Green and White won game two 6-1.

York is now 19-6 overall and 9-4 in the Capital Athletic Conference while the Wolverines are 19-12-1 overall and 8-7 in the CAC.

Frankenfield earned the spot start as the Spartans have a number of conference games piling up due to rainouts. Frankenfield entered the game as one of the top arms in the Spartan pen this year. He proved that he could do the job as a spot starter as well.

Frankenfield looked like he was going to work his way into trouble early as it took him 23 pitches to navigate the opening inning. He walked two and had a throwing error in the frame but managed to work out of trouble thanks to a pick off, a fly out and a strikeout.

The Spartan junior settled down and was much more efficient in the second, setting the stage for the Spartan offense in the bottom of the inning. C.T. Stanley (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall College) reached on a throwing error and then rode home two batters later as Chris Young (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land) jacked a two-out, two-run homer to deep right, giving York 2-0 lead.

Frankenfield continued to hold the Wesley bats in check as he allowed a third inning single, a fourth inning walk, and a runner to reach via error in the fifth.

The Spartans added three huge insurance runs in the fifth courtesy of a Kyle Cook (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) two out RBI single. Cook then got to trot home when Mike Connolly (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) ripped a two-run homer to right, pushing the Spartan lead to 5-0.

Matt Monti (Easton, Pa./Easton) had an RBI infield single with the bases loaded in the sixth to provide York with their sixth run of the game.

The Wolverines finally got to Frankenfield in the seventh with an unearned run but the junior closed out the game for his first career complete game.

Frankenfield improves to 2-0 with the win as he allowed just one unearned run on four hits with four strikeouts and three walks. He needed 96 pitches to venture through the seven innings as he saved the Spartan pen.

Colin Warner suffered the loss as he allowed five runs, three earned, on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk in five innings of action. Warner falls to 3-4 with the loss. Ryan Doran allowed a run on two hits in his third of an inning of work while Chris Koch tossed two thirds of an inning and allowed one hit with one walk and a strikeout.

Young led the Spartan offense as he was 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Cook added two hits with an RBI and a run scored in three at-bats. Connolly was 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Monti was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored for York.

Stu Madden led the Wolverines with two hits and an RBI. Geoff Kimmel and Tyler Burns had the other hits for Wesley.
Game one was a disappointing contest for the home standing Spartans as York had an early 1-0 lead. Senior Ryan Poff (York, Pa./Spring Grove) had a sacrifice fly in the first to put York up a run but the Spartans could have had more as they left two runners stranded in the frame.

The Wolverines reached Spartan starter Jason Christenberry (Yoe, Pa./Dallastown) in the fourth. Christenberry walked the first two hitters of the frame as it set the stage for a huge Wolverine frame. Christenberry then got a strikeout and a fly out as it looked like he might get out of the jam. Bryan Reshetar then hit a line drive home run into the wind in right that just cleared the 14-foot wall, giving the Wolverines a 3-1 lead.

Not to be deterred, the Spartans tied the game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single from Cook and a two-run double to center from Connolly, knotting the game at three.

Each team scored single runs in the sixth, setting the stage for the fateful seventh inning. The Wolverines got two runs on two hits in the seventh.  Greg McKee broke the 4-4 tie with an RBI double. McKee advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored the eventual game winner on a Madden sacrifice fly to right.

The Spartans got one of those runs back in the seventh inning but a double play short-circuited the rally as the Wolverines escaped with a game-one win.

DJ Keckler earned the win for the Wolverines as he allowed five runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 6.1 innings of work. He improves to 5-1 with the win. Kyle McGuire picked the final two outs of the game to earn the save, his second of the season.

Christenberry suffered the loss as he allowed six runs on five hits with two walks and six strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. He falls to 4-1 with the loss.

Reshetar led the Wolverines as he was 3-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. McKee added a hit, an RBI, and a run scored.  Kevin Murphy added a hit and two runs scored for Wesley.

Cook led the Spartan offense as he banged out four hits for the second time in three games. He was 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Connolly was 2-for-4 with two RBI while Poff was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Rob Andrews (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) came off the bench and was 2-for-2 with an RBI.

The Spartans return to action on Monday afternoon as they travel to Stevenson University to face the Mustangs in a makeup CAC twin bill. Game one is set for a 3:30 pm start.
