MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The York College
baseball squad rolled to their fourth straight win as the Spartans
clubbed their way past Eastern University, 20-0, on Monday
afternoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C. The Spartans improve to 4-2 overall
while the Eagles start their season 0-1.
The Spartans banged out 19 hits in the game as they scored 20
runs for the second straight contest. The Spartans tallied 12 runs
in the first three innings to put the game away early.
The Spartans early offensive output would be more than enough
for Spartan starter Andy Rosenzweig (Glen Rock,
Pa./Susquehannock) as the sophomore scattered three hits
in his six innings of work. Rosenzweig, who improved to 1-1 with
the win, struck out one and did not walk a batter in a very
impressive start. Brandon Ullom (South Plainfield,
N.J./South Plainfield) relieved Rosenzweig and tossed two
innings, allowing just one hit as he struck out four for the Green
and White. Junior Jeff Benchich (Salt Point,
N.Y./Millbrook) tossed the final inning for York, allowing
one hit with one strikeout.
Paul Sinclair suffered the loss for Eastern as he tossed 2.1
innings, allowing 12 runs, 10 earned, on seven hits with four walks
and a pair of strikeouts. He falls to 0-1 with the setback.
The Spartans were very balanced offensively as 13 Spartans got
at least one hit in the game. Senior Ryan Poff (York,
Pa./Spring Grove) led the Green and White with three hits,
two runs scored and six RBI. Sophomore Rob Klinck
(Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) was 2-for-2 with
three runs scored and an RBI while fellow sophomore Kyle Cook
(Pylesville, Md./North Harford) was 2-for-4 with two runs scored
and an RBI. Freshmen Ryan Woods (Glen Burnie,
Md./Archbishop Spalding) and Adam Hegedus (Etters,
Pa./Red Land) each contributed a pair of hits to the
Spartan attack. Junior Mike Connolly (Selden,
N.Y./Newfield) was 1-for-2 with three RBI and a run
scored. Junior Matt Monti (Easton, Pa./Eastern)
chipped in with a hit, two runs scored and two RBI.
The Eagles had just four hits in the game with Ramon Reyes
getting Eastern's lone extra base hit with a double.
The Spartans and Eagles square off again on Tuesday at 3:00 pm
in York's third game on their four game trip.
