YORK, PA-The York College baseball squad captured a 10-8 non-conference win over Franklin & Marshall on a sun-splashed Wednesday afternoon in York. The Spartans, who snapped their four game losing streak, improve to 11-24 with the win. The Diplomats fall to 18-13 with the loss.

The first inning was an offensive showcase as the two teams combined to score eight runs. Spartan starter Jason Christenberry (Yoe, Pa./Dallastown) got two outs on a double play ground ball but then the visitors proceeded to get five runs. The Spartans had a pair of errors in the inning, allowing the Diplomats a trio of unearned runs.
York struck for three in the bottom of the frame as Dennis Maxim (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y./St. Anthony's) had a bloop RBI single and Mike Santoro (Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan) stroked a two-run double to deep center, trimming the York deficit to 5-3.

The Diplomats increased the lead with a Bill Murray RBI double in the third.

York drew to within a run in the fourth. The uprising started with a booming C.T. Stanley (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall College) home run to right field. The Spartans got their second run of the frame courtesy of two Diplomat defensive lapses. Kyle Cook (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) walked, stole second, advanced to third on an error by the catcher on the stolen base attempt, and scored when third baseman Murray threw away Rob Klinck's (Stanhope, N.J./Lenape Valley Regional) routine ground ball.

York took the lead in the fifth as Santoro started the frame with a line drive double to left. Ryan Craig (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) singled and Chris Young (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land) walked to load the bases. Stanley then plated a pair with a sharp single to center. Klinck scored Young one batter later with a single to center.

F&M trimmed the Spartan lead to 8-7 on a Mark Minutaglio RBI double to right center.
York increased their lead to 10-7 in the bottom of the sixth as Young came through with a two-run double to right center.

The Spartans helped the Diplomats again in the eighth as pinch hitter Matt Will reached on a fielding error, advanced to second on a throwing error, moved to third when he got picked off and the Spartans dropped the ball on a tag for a third error in the inning. Will scored when reliever Jake Hughes (Schwenksville, Pa./Souderton) tossed a wild pitch.

Reliever Chris Frankenfield (Blue Bell, Pa./Wissahickon) tossed the ninth, allowing one hit, to earn his first save of the season.

Andy Rosenzweig (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) earned the win as he allowed one run on four hits in his three innings of relief work. He improves to 3-5 with the win. Christenberry started and did not factor in the decision as he allowed six runs, three earned, on seven hits with two strikeouts and a walk in three innings of work. Hughes allowed one unearned run in his two frames of action.

Matt Metsch took the loss as he allowed three runs on four hits with a walk in his third of an inning of work in relief of starter Dan Tischler. Tischler allowed four runs on five hits with four walks and a strikeout in his four inning stint. Mike Duranti tossed 1.2 innings, allowing two runs while Nick Markel closed out the Diplomat effort with a scoreless two innings of work.

Offensively, Santoro led the Spartans as he was 3-for-5 with two RBI and a pair of runs scored. Stanley was 2-for-4 with three RBI including his first collegiate home run while Maxim also added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Klinck was 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI in the leadoff spot for the Spartans.

The Diplomats had five players with two hits each. Eric Bornstein was 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored while Patrick O'Reilly was 2-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and an RBI. Minutaglio, Jason Anderson, and Murray each added a pair of hits to the Diplomat attack.

The Spartans return to action on Thursday to face another Centennial Conference foe as they travel to Johns Hopkins to face the Blue Jays. First pitch in Baltimore is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
