WASHINGTON, DC-York College junior
right-hander Tim Frisch (New Freedom,
PA/Susquehannock) tossed a complete game as the Spartans
posted a 10-2 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Catholic
University at Gallaudet University on Wednesday afternoon. The game
was played at Gallaudet due to field construction at
Catholic's Talbot Field. The green and white improves to 8-4
overall and 1-1 in the CAC. York has won seven of their last eight
games. Catholic falls to 6-9 overall and 1-2 in the league.
The Spartans struck first with a two-run third
inning. York scored their first run on a Catholic error while the
second run came on an RBI single from Bryan Bednarczyk
(Columbia, MD/River Hill). The green and white tacked on
two more runs in the fourth on a Jeff Young (Wilmington,
DE/Brandywine) sacrifice fly and an Anthony
Anzalone (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) RBI
single.
The Cardinals finally reached Frisch for a
single run in the fifth, cutting their deficit to 4-1.
The green and white put the game out of reach in
the eighth as they struck for five runs. Bednarczyk, Dennis
Maxim (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. Anthony's),
and Mike Santoro (Manalapan, NJ/Manalapan) had RBI
hits in the inning while Young capped the frame with a two-run jack
to push the Spartan lead to 9-1.
Each team scored a run in the ninth to provide
for the final score.
Frisch finished the game allowing two runs on
eight hits with eight strikeouts and no walks in nine innings.
Frisch improved to 2-0 with the win. Joseph Voiro took the loss as
he allowed six runs, four earned, on six hits with five strikeouts
and three walks in 7-plus innings. Billy Robbett relieved Voiro and
surrendered three runs on three hits in the eighth inning while
Mike Michalski allowed one run on one hit in the ninth inning.
The Spartan offense was paced by Maxim as he was
3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Young was 1-for-3 with
three RBI and two runs scored. Ryan Poff (York, PA/Spring
Grove) was 1-for-4 with three runs scored for the green
and white.
Matthew Rosner was 2-for-4 with two runs scored
while Michalski was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Pedro Rivera also had a
pair of hits for the Cardinals.
The game begins a five-games in five days
stretch for the Spartans. York continues the road trip with games
at Rowan on Thursday and at Johns Hopkins on Friday before the
green and white make their home debut on Saturday against Catholic.
