ELIZABETHTOWN, PA-The York College baseball team, despite a ten day layoff, remained red hot as the Spartans won their sixth straight game, edging Elizabethtown College 2-0 in a non-conference game at Boyd Stadium in Elizabethtown, PA on Tuesday. The Spartans improve to 7-3 overall while the Blue Jays, who had their six game win streak snapped, fall to 6-4.
    The first six innings featured little offense as Spartan starter Jason Christenberry (Yoe, PA/Dallastown) and Blue Jay starter Adam Hartzell were outstanding. Christenberry allowed just four hits through the first six innings while Hartzell scattered seven Spartan hits during the green and white's first six offensive frames.
    The Spartans finally reached Hartzell in the seventh as senior Jeff Young (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) drew a one-out walk. He advanced to second on a wild pitch and scored on an RBI triple to right off the bat of Ryan Craig (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point).
    The Blue Jays threatened in the bottom of the eighth as Spartan reliever Randy Bond (Brandywine, MD/Riverdale Baptist) got a strikeout to start the inning but Elizabethtown struck together back-to-back singles to put runners at first and second. Bond got the second out and then was relieved by Tim Frisch (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock). Frisch promptly hit the first batter he faced to load the bases before coaxing Adam Sheibley to fly out to center to end the threat.
    York added an insurance run in the ninth as Dennis Maxim (Port Jefferson Station, NY/St. Anthony's) stroked a triple to right to lead off the frame. After a pop up, Young drove a deep fly ball to left, scoring Maxim with York's second run.
    Frisch closed out the win with one-two-three ninth to pick up the save.
    Christenberry earned the win as he went seven innings, allowing no runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks. He improves to 2-0 with the victory. Bond tossed two-thirds of an inning, allowing the two hits with a strikeout. Frisch struck out one in his 1.1 innings of work.
    Hartzell was the hard-luck loser as the freshman tossed seven innings, allowing one run on eight hits with four strikeouts and three walks. Reliever Dan Lauletta threw the final two innings, allowing one run on two hits.
    The Spartan offense was led by Maxim as the junior was 3-for-4 with a run scored. Freshman Anthony Anzalone (Rocky Point, NY/Rocky Point) added two hits while Young was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.
    Mike Donahue and Ryan White led Elizabethtown as they were each 2-for-3 as they combined to pick up four of the Blue Jays' six hits.
    The green and white return to action on Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Mary Washington to face the Eagles in the Capital Athletic Conference opener for both schools. First pitch in Fredericksburg is slated for 3:00 pm.
