NEWTOWN, Pa. – The York College softball team had five players earn MAC All-Commonwealth honors as announced by the league on Friday morning.
First year
Noelle Smith earned first-team honors. Senior
Natalie Rietema earned second-team honors while seniors
Gretchen Barstad and
Bri McKeown along with sophomore
Danella Silagy were honorable mention selections.
Smith had a great rookie season as she earned first team MAC All-Commonwealth honors. The Designated Player had a .465 batting average and led the conference in slugging percentage (.919) and on base + slugging percentage (1.419). She was second in the league with eight home runs. Smith led the Spartans in batting average, slugging percentage, RBIs (37), doubles (15), home runs, and total bases (79).
Rietema concludes her stellar Spartan career, earning her fourth MAC All-Commonwealth honor. Rietema was named second team All-MAC Commonwealth, posting 12 wins and a save as she made a team-high 19 starts in the circle. She threw 120.1 innings with 11 complete games and two shutouts. She struck out 93 as she held opponents to a .232 batting average against.
Barstad concludes her Spartan career with her third career appearance on the MAC All-Commonwealth squad. Barstad was named Honorable Mention, hitting .326 this season. The senior led the Spartans in walks (26) and stolen bases (16). She had 15 RBIs for the Green and White and held a 1.000 fielding percentage at first base with 173 chances.
McKeown finishes her Spartan career with her first MAC All-Commonwealth selection, making the Honorable Mention team. The senior hit .319 with a career-high 12 doubles and four home runs. She started all 39 games this season for the Green and White at second base.
Silagy rounds out her sophomore season with All-MAC Commonwealth Honorable Mention accolades. Silagy started all 39 games at shortstop for the Spartans, batting .374 with 10 doubles and a team-high two triples. The second year also led the team in hits with 46 this season.
The Spartans have now earned 30 MAC All-Commonwealth awards in York's six years as members of the MAC Commonwealth.
