Softball Advances to MAC Commonwealth Championship Game

YORK, Pa. – The Spartan softball team was back in action on Friday, facing off against No.1 Messiah in their second matchup of the MAC Commonwealth Playoffs. The Green and White brought home another victory, defeating the Falcons by a score of 6-1.

How It Happened
The Spartans got on the board early, grabbing the first run of the game in the top of the first inning. Alexis McDonaugh singled through the right side, brining home Noelle Smith

Messiah was quick to strike back, evening the game back up 1-1 in the bottom half of the first. 

In the top of the second, Danella Silagy knocked an RBI single to center, scoring Devyn McFarland, putting York ahead again. 

Bri McKeown added to the Spartan lead in the top of the 5th with an RBI single of her own. 

Sara DeFrancesco was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, bringing in McKeown. 

Later in the fifth, Allison Hunsberger was also hit by a pitch, scoring McDonaugh. 

In the top of the sixth, Kate Miller slapped an RBI-double to right center, extending the York lead to 6-1. 

Natalie Rietema spun the complete game for the Green and White, allowing only one run on three hits. Rietema struck out five Falcons in her seven innings of work.
