Spartans Capture Inaugural MAC Women’s Wrestling Championship Title

DOYLESTOWN, Pa. - The York women's wrestling team captured the team title with three individual champions at the inaugural Middle Atlantic Conference Women's Wrestling Championship hosted by Delaware Valley University on Sunday.

The Spartans finished first out of the six-team field with 103 points, followed by Eastern (99), Alvernia (50), Arcadia (47), Delaware Valley (28.5) and Misericordia (13.5).

York led the way with nine medalists, including three individual champions, while Eastern led with five individual champions as part of their eight total medalists. The champions are named to the All-MAC First Team; second place is named to the All-MAC Second Team, and third-place is named All-MAC Third Team.

Maura White put together the most dominant performance of the event as she led all wrestlers in total match points (32), team points (20.5), most falls and technical falls combined (4) and had the most number of falls (3) in the least amount of time (10:54). White went 4-0 on the day with three falls and a technical fall, and pinned Paige Jackson (Eastern) in the 138-pound title bout. 

Peyton Fries ranked second overall with 18 team points, followed by Allison Brandt who tied for third with 16 points, Kylie Monroe who ranked eighth with 14 team points and Ashley Knapp who ranked ninth with 13 points. Monroe ranked among the pin leaders with two in a total time of just 1:16 and owned the fifth-fastest fall at just 35 seconds and the eighth-fastest at 41 seconds. Fries owned the fourth-fastest fall of the day at 31 seconds.
