Women's Golf Sits Second After Day One of MAC Championships

Grace Strickland is locked in a four-way tie for first place in the tournament

FLEETWOOD, PA – The York College women's golf team sits second after day one of the 2025 Middle Atlantic Conference championships at Golden Oaks Country Club in Fleetwood, PA.
 
The Spartans shot a team score of 316 as they are five strokes back of defending champion, and tournament favorite, Alvernia as the Golden Wolves shot 311 for the round. Albright is 26 strokes back in third place with a score of 342. Arcadia (355) is fourth while Stevenson and Lebanon Valley are tied for fifth at 363.
 
Spartan junior Grace Strickland is locked in a four-way tie for first place as she carded a three-over-par 75. Strickland was two-over-par on the front nine as she shot 38. She had three bogeys and a birdie on the par fourth seventh hole. Strickland had a bogey on the par five 11th hole and then ripped off five straight pars. She birdied the par four 17th hole before giving that shot right back with a bogey on 18. Strickland shot 37 on the inward nine.
 
Strickland is tied with Albright's Fatima Rizvi, Alvernia's McKyle Boreman and Lebanon Valley's Jillian Fidler.
 
Spartan junior Tori Blanc is tied for eighth for the Green and White as she carded an eight-over 80 on Saturday. Blanc was five-over on the front including a double on the par four third. She had two more bogeys on the first nine as she shot 41. Blanc started the back with a par and a birdie before registering bogeys on 12, 15, 16, and 17 as she shot 39 for the second nine.
 
Blanc is tied with teammate Victoria Jolakian as the sophomore also shot 80 during the opening round. Jolakian was six-over on the front with four bogeys and a double on the third hole. After a bogey on ten, Jolakian ripped off five pars and a birdie before a double on the par four 17th hole. She bounced back to par 18 to shoot 38 on the back nine.
 
Ava Johnsen and Lily Davis rounded out the Spartan lineup as they finished tied for 11th with matching nine-over-par 81's. Johnsen was five-over on the opening nine. She had a wild back nine with two birdies, four bogeys, one double and two pars en route to a back nine 40.
 
Davis got off to a tough start with a triple on three but finished the rest of the opening nine with four pars and two bogeys for a 41. Davis then had two pars to open the back nine before having a stretch of three holes where she was four-over. Davis steadied the ship and pared her last four holes to shoot 40.
 
The Spartans will look to climb past Alvernia on Sunday to win their fourth MAC championship. The Spartans have won MAC Championships in 2021, 2022, and 2023.
