FLEETWOOD, PA – The York College women's golf team fell just short of winning the 2025 MAC Championship as they finished second at the championships on Sunday at Golden Oaks Country Club in Fleetwood, PA.

The Spartans fired a two-day total of 636 as they finished two strokes back of two-time champion Alvernia. The Golden Wolves held off the Spartans with a score of 634. York shot 320 on Sunday while Alvernia shot 323. The Spartans, who began the day five strokes back, had surged into the lead at the turn as they actually built a five-stroke lead but the Golden Wolves staged a furious comeback to keep the MAC Championship in Reading.

While the Spartans were unable to capture the team title, not all was lost as junior
Grace Strickland earned medalist honors as she was named the MAC Player of the Year. Strickland won the individual title by two strokes after being in a four-way tie for first after day one.
Â
Strickland is the second Spartan to earn the conference Player of the Year Award as she joins Natalie Robson (2021 and 2022) in earning the honor.
Â
Strickland's individual title is actually quite remarkable as she missed the entire fall campaign after having off-season shoulder surgery. She rehabbed diligently and was able to rejoin her Spartan teammates on the course in the spring. The junior is a first-time league champion and a three-time All-MAC honoree.
Â
Strickland carded a 39 on the front with a birdie, four pars and four bogeys. On the inward nine, Strickland started with a par and a birdie. She finished with four pars and three bogeys as she shot 38 on the back to earn the two-stroke tournament win with a 77 as she shot 152 for the tournament.Â

Â
The tournament ends a strong campaign for the Green and White. York finished the year with six top five tournament finishes including wins at the Ruckus tournament in late March and another victory at the Spartan Spring Invitational in mid-April. The Spartans must say goodbye to senior
Olivia Schenk but are slated to return the rest of the roster heading into the 2025-26 campaign.
