Women’s Wrestling Earns Three Titles at Terrier Round Robin

HIRAM, Ohio - The York women's wrestling team captured three titles and compiled 10 top-three finishes at the Terrier Round Robin hosted by Hiram College on Sunday.

Gisele Ramirez went 5-0 on the day with five first-period falls on her way to nabbing the 117-pound title. The sophomore won both of her round robin matches to earn the top seed in the bracket where she ripped off three more wins including a fall in 92 seconds against Dianna Pineda (Alfred State) in the title bout.

Maura White compiled a record of 5-0 with four falls on her way to clinching the 138-pound title in a round robin format. White posted a pair of falls in less than 30 seconds, including a 17-second victory over Christina Paluzzi (Alfred State).

Peyton Fries captured York's third individual title on the day as she went 5-0 at 207 lbs. The sophomore stormed through her four round robin matches with a fall in each bout, including three in the first period, before earning a win by forfeit in the first-place match.

Lexi Mazzella earned a runner-up finish at 131 lbs. with a 4-1 record and three falls on the day. Mazzella went 3-0 in the round robin matches to earn a spot in the championship bracket. She defeated Ilani Jones-Wallace (Mt. Union) with a first-period fall in the semifinals before falling to Abigal Mozden (Mt. Union) in the title bout.

Makyla Bolinger finished second at 138 lbs. as she went 3-1 on the day. Bolinger scored a 48-second fall to start the day, followed by 6-0 decision and a 12-0 technical fall.

Ashley Knapp earned a second-place finish at 145 lbs. after going 4-1 with four falls. Knapp won both of her round robin matches to earn a spot in the championship bracket where she led off with a fall in 79 seconds followed by fall in nine seconds to earn a spot in the title bout where she fell, 10-0, to Harlow Skenandore.

Rebekah Patzke took third place at 145 lbs. after posting a 4-1 record with three falls. Patzke bounced back from a semifinal loss to Knapp with a fall against Madalaine Menchaca in the third-place bout.

Riley Stubbs nabbed a third-place finish at 124 lbs. after going 3-1 with a fall and two technical falls. Barbara Hartman took third in the 131-pound competition as she went 4-1 with four falls. Allison Brandt earned third place at 180 lbs. after posting a record of 3-2 on the day.

The Spartans return to competition on January 4 in a home tri-match with Bethany and Muhlenberg.
