Four Women’s Wrestlers Claim Titles at Cougar Classic

DALLAS, Pa. - The York women's wrestling team captured four individual titles and compiled 10 place winners in bracket and round robin formats at the Cougar Classic hosted by Misericordia on Saturday.

The Spartans finished second behind Ursinus (11) for the most place winners and tied Eastern (4) for the most individual champions on the day.

Maura White captured the 138-pound title as she went 4-0 with two falls and two technical falls, out-scoring her opponents 46-7. White capped off the day by defeating Paige Jackson (Eastern) with a fall (5:42) in the title bout.

Kylie Monroe won the 160-pound bracket with a record of 3-0 and out-scored her competition 21-1. Monroe posted a technical fall and two falls, including against Emma Matera (Ursinus) in the finals.

Allison Brandt received a first-round bye and ripped off a pair of falls to capture the 180-pound title. Brandt pinned Maya Krieger (Eastern) late in the first period after the two were tied, 5-5, to capture first place at 180 lbs.

Peyton Fries won all three of her matches in the 207-pound round robin pool to finish first in the four-woman field. Fries compiled wins via fall, technical fall and decision with a 28-4 combined point margin.

Gisele Ramirez (117 lbs.), Rebekah Patzke (145 lbs.) and Emma Lavalle (207 lbs.) all finished second in their respective weight classes. Ramirez went 1-1, Patzke went 4-1 and Lavalle posted a record of 2-1 on the day.

Mackenzie Smith (103 lbs.) and Daisey Hawkins (110 lbs.) both finished third in their weight classes with Smith posting a 2-3 record and Hawkins going 2-2. Grace Woodring nabbed a fourth-place finish at 117 lbs. with a 2-2 record on the day.

The Spartans will return to the mats at the New Standard Invitational hosted by York College on December 5-6.
