Women’s Wrestling Open Season at ESU

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The York women's wrestling team opened the season finishing 17th out of 31 teams with one place winner at the fifth-annual ESU Open hosted by East Stroudsburg University on Sunday.

Peyton Fries led the way for York with a fifth-place finish in the 207-pound bracket after going 3-1 on the day with three falls and a technical fall. After falling to second-seed Survavieve Roberson (Bluefield State) in the quarterfinals, Fries ended her day with three-straight wins capped off by a first-period fall against Daniella Jenkins (Montreat) in the fifth-place bout.

Several other Spartans posted multi-win performances on the day. Mackenzie Smith went 2-2 with a fall and a technical fall at 103 lbs. At 124 lbs., Barabara Hartman went 2-2 with a pair of falls and Kallie Bower went 2-2 with a fall and a technical fall. Makyla Bolinger went 2-2 at 138 lbs. with a fall and a technical as she out-scored her opponents 18-0 in those wins.

In the 145-pound bracket, Maura White tied for the team lead in wins as she went 3-2 with a decision, technical fall and a fall, while Rebekah Patzke went 2-2 with a fall and a technical fall. Kylie Monroe went 2-2 at 160 lbs. with a fall and a technical fall. Allison Brandt also nabbed a trio of wins on the day as she 3-2 at 180 lbs. with two technical falls and a decision. Emma Lavalle went 2-2 at 207 lbs. with a fall and a technical fall as she out-scored her opponents 15-0 in those wins.
