White Concludes Season with Trip to Nationals

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa - York College freshman Maura White concluded her historic season Friday on day one of the National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships at the Alliant Energy PowerHouse Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

White drew a tough matchup in her opening bout as she squared off of seventh-ranked Taylor Graveman from North Central. Graveman wasted little time getting the first points of the match as she scored a four-point takedown 11 seconds after the starting whistle and rapidly racked up six more points to end the match in just 20 seconds with a 10-0 technical fall.

The Spartan freshman fell into another early deficit in her second and final match of the tournament as she faced Gianna Anaya from Emmanuel (Ga.). Anaya scored a takedown nine seconds in and owned a 6-0 lead at the end of the first period. White scrapped and managed to get in deep on a few shots throughout the first period, but just could not turn her opportunities into points. Anaya got back to her offense in a hurry to start the second period as she scored a four-point takedown early which ended the match at 3:19 with an 11-0 technical fall.

White will go down in history as York College's first-ever national qualifier as she reached the national stage in the program's inaugural season. White earned her way to nationals with a second-place finish at regionals two weeks ago for her fifth podium appearance of the season. She capped her season with a team-leading record of 20-9 with a team-high 13 falls.
