WILLIAMSBURG, VA – The York College women's golf team captured their second win of the spring season as they earned the title at The Ruckus tournament in Williamsburg, Virginia this weekend.
The Spartans won the tournament by nine strokes over Adrian College of Michigan as the Green and White finished with a two-day total of 673. York shot 338 on Saturday as they trailed Adrian by five strokes. However, York shot a 335 on Sunday while the Bulldogs carded a score of 351. Washington and Jefferson placed third at 687 followed by Arcadia (813) in fourth. Goucher and Husson tied for fifth at 887 while Eastern University rounded out the tournament field at 948.
The Spartans were paced on the weekend by first year Spartan
Victoria Jolakian as she tied for third with a two-day total of 167. Jolakian shot 82 on Saturday followed by an 85 on Sunday. She finished 10 strokes back of individual winner Megan Joyce from Washington & Jefferson. Adrian's Lauren Reed finished four strokes ahead of Jolakian in second. The top five finish for Jolakian is the second of her career.
Sophomore
Tori Blanc placed fourth as she was one stroke behind Jolakian. Blanc shot 85 on Saturday and then an 83 on Sunday for her fourth-place finish. The top five finish is the third of the season for Blanc and the ninth of her career.
Sophomore
Grace Strickland tied for fifth as she totaled a two-day score of 169. Strickland shot 85 on Saturday and bettered that by one stroke on Sunday. The top five finish is her fifth of the year and ninth of her Spartan career.
First-year
Lily Davis, fresh off a win at the LVC Invite earlier in the week, earned a top ten finish as she placed ninth with a two-day score of 171. Davis shot 86 on Saturday and then followed that with an 85 on Sunday. The top ten finish is the third this season.
Sophomore
Jessica Shay rounded out the Spartan lineup as she placed 12
th with a score of 178. Shay shot 95 on Saturday and then shaved 12 strokes on Sunday to help the Spartans clinch the title. Shay's Sunday round tied Blanc for the Spartan low score of the round.
The Spartans are now off until Thursday, April 4 when they travel to the Elizabethtown College Invitational at the Hershey Country Club East. The one-day tournament is set for a 12:00 pm start.
