GRANVILLE, PA – The York College women's golf squad opened their fall season this weekend in Granville, Ohio at the Lynn Schweizer Invitational hosted by Denison University. The Spartans finished eighth out of 14 teams in the loaded field. York shot 318 on Saturday followed by 320 on Sunday.
The event was loaded with top 25 teams. Third ranked Emory won the team title with a score of 583. The Eagles shot 291 on Saturday followed by a 292 on Sunday as they cruised to the championship. Centre College, ranked 13
th in the country, finished second at 609. Washington-St. Louis, the second ranked team in the county finished third at 611. The tenth ranked Methodist Monarchs placed fourth at 619 while the host Big Red, the 17
th ranked team in Division III, rounded out the top five at 621.
The Spartans made their season debut as one of the youngest teams in the county as the starting lineup features three sophomores and a pair of freshmen.
Sophomore
Tori Blanc led the way for the Green and White as she finished tied for 18
th. Blanc shot a two-day total of 156 as she fired a 77 on Saturday followed by a 79 on Sunday. Blanc finished two strokes out of a top 15 finish.
Sophomore
Grace Strickland was the next Spartan finisher as she tied for 26
th with a two-day total of 157. Strickland carded a 77 on Saturday to tie Blanc for the team lead. She then shot 80 on Sunday to earn the top 30 finish.
Freshman
Victoria Jolakian made her Spartan debut a successful one as she finished the tournament tied for 36 with a two-day total of 161. Jolakian fired an 82 in her first collegiate round and then made a three-stroke improvement on Sunday for a 79.
Sophomore
Brooke Zajac and freshman
Lilly Davis tied for the final spot for the Spartans with totals of 168. Zajac shot 82 on Saturday and 86 on Sunday while Davis was reverse with an 86 in her collegiate debut followed by an 82 on Sunday. The duo tied for 56
th overall in the 78-player field.
The Spartans are now off until Saturday, September 23 when the squad heads to Williamstown, Massachusetts to play in the Williams Invitational hosted by Williams College at the Taconic Golf Club. The two round event kicks off Saturday at noon.
