WILLIAMSTOWN, MASS – The York College women's golf squad concluded a cold and rainy weekend at the Williams Invitational in Williamstown, Massachusetts on Sunday afternoon. The Spartans finished 14
th at the 21-team field. The Spartans shot 336 on Saturday followed by a 337 on Sunday for a two-day total of 673.
Williams won the team title with a two-day score of 597. Pomona-Pitzer finished second at 613 followed by Wellesley at 625. Hamilton (634) and Middlebury (639) rounded out the top five teams in the tournament.
The tournament field was loaded with ranked teams. Williams is ranked 11
th in the WGCA Coaches Poll while Pomona-Pitzer is sixth. Middlebury is 25
th in the poll while other ranked teams included NYU (16
th). York, Hamilton, Randolph-Macon and Wellesley are four teams receiving votes in the most recent poll.
The Spartans were paced by sophomore
Grace Strickland as she fired matching 80's for the tournament. She finished tied for 32
nd in the 125-player field. Fellow sophomore
Tori Blanc was York's next finisher as she finished with a two-day total of 166. Blanc shot 83 on Saturday followed by another 83 on Sunday. She finished tied for 50
th in the tournament.
Sophomore
Jessica Shay was York's third finisher in the tournament as she tied for 62
nd overall with a two-day score of 168. Shay shot matching 84's for the Spartans. Sophomore
Vivian D'Orazi was York's fourth scorer in the tournament as she placed 94
th with a two-day total of 180. D'Orazi shot 90 on both days for the Spartans.
Freshman
Victoria Jolakian was York's final tournament participant as she tied for 108
th with a two-day total of 185. Jolakian shot 89 on Saturday followed by a 96 on Sunday.
The Spartans are now off until Monday, October 16 when they travel to the two-day Arcadia Fall Invitational at the Bulle Rock Golf Club in Havre de Grace, Maryland. Day one kicks off at 12:00 pm.
