FLEETWOOD, PA – Due to the heavy rains inundating the mid-Atlantic region, the second round of the 2023 Middle Atlantic Conference championships have been canceled.
That means the York College Spartans earned their third consecutive MAC Championship and will head to the NCAA Tournament for the third time. York pushed out to a 15-stroke lead after round one and that performance enabled the Spartans to earn the title.
The conference attempted to start the round but excessive standing water on the course made it impossible to finish the scheduled two-day tournament.
York placed their top three finishers on the first-team All-MAC squad. Senior
Natalie Robson, a two-time Player of the Year, finished third this year for her third All-MAC first-team accolade in as many seasons. Robson's freshman season in York was wiped out by COVID.Robson earlier in the week was named the MAC Senior Scholar Athlete for Women's Golf, the second Spartan to earn the honor after
Jordan Koller notched the award last spring.
Freshman
Tori Blanc earned the MAC Rookie of the Year award for her fourth-place finish. Blanc is the third Spartan in program history to earn the league's top rookie honor as
Anna Moore captured the honor in the CAC in 2019 while Robson earned the award in 2021. Blanc also earned first-team All-MAC honors.
Fellow freshman
Grace Strickland was the third Spartan to earn first-team All-MAC honors as she finished the tournament tied for fifth.
Spartan head coach
Eric Stauffer earned his second straight Coach of the Year award for his efforts in leading a starting lineup with one senior and four freshmen to the league title.
The conference championship is the fourth in the six-year history of the York College program. The Spartans won the 2019 CAC championship followed by the 2021, 2022, and 2023 MAC titles.
York will now head to Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida to participate in the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship May 9-12.
