Spartans Capture Title at 14-Team Susquehanna Fall Invite

The Spartans earned their first tournament title of the year

SELINSGROVE, PA  - The York College women's golf earned their first tournament title of the year as they captured the title at the one-day Susquehanna Fall Invitational in Selinsgrove, PA.

The Spartans needed a come-from-behind effort as they trailed the host River Hawks for most of the back nine.
York finished the tournament with a score of 321, to beat Susquehanna by two strokes. Seton Hill placed third at 333 followed by Gettysburg (339) and Salisbury (358) to round out of top five of the 14-team tournament.

The Spartans placed three players in the top nine of the tournament led by sophomore Ava Johnsen followed by Lily Davis, and Victoria Jolakian.

Johnsen posted a fourth place finish with a seven-over-par 77. The sophomore shot a two-over-par 36 on the front. She was three-over through four before a birdie on five. A bogey followed by three pars put her in the middle of the top five. Johnsen had five bogeys and four pars on the back for a five-over-par 41 for her 77.

Lebanon Valley's Jillian Fidler won the tournament with a one-over-par 71.

Davis finished tied for sixth as she carded a nine-over-par 79 in the tournament. Davis shot a three-over-par 37 on the front nine as she had four pars, one birdie and four bogeys in her opening nine. Davis went six-over on the back with four pars, four bogeys and a double bogey for her 79.

Jolakian, coming off a tournament title of her own last weekend at Southern Virginia, tied for ninth with an 81. She got off to a strange start with a birdie on one followed by a quad that could have really short circuited her round. She bounced back to go three over on her final seven holes of the opening nine. Jolakian had a double to start the back but again settled in to finished three over during her last eight holes of the round to shoot 41 on the back and 81 overall.

Grace Strickland was the fourth Spartan scorer as she tied for 20th with a round of 84. Strickland shot a 41 on the front followed by a 43 on the back for her 84. Vivian D'Orazi was York's fifth tournament participant. She shot 100 for the round with a 50 on the front and 50 on the back.

The Spartans are off until Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28 when they head to the Williams College Invitational at the Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Mass. The action is slated for a 10:00 am start on Saturday.
