EAST STROUDSBURG, PA – The York College women's wrestling squad made Spartan history on Sunday in their first varsity meet at the East Stroudsburg Open in East Stroudsburg, PA.
The Spartans finished ninth with five team points in the 22 team event.
The Green and White saw freshman
Allison Brandt lead the Spartans with a third-place finish at 191 pounds while fellow freshman
Maura White placed sixth at 143 pounds.
Brandt began her day with a win by fall over East Stroudsburg's Felicia Smith 2:54 into the bout in her round of 16 match up. She defeated Cape Verde's Arianna Xavier by fall at the 4:19 mark in her quarterfinal bout. Brandt dropped her semifinal match to New Jersey City's Sandra Guerrero 10-0. She bounced back in the third-place bout as she posted another win by fall as she beat East Stroudsburg's Ariel Ofri-Akman at the 5:58 mark of the bout.
White began her tournament with a 16-3 major decision win over Elmira's Ella Bode in the round of 32. White dropped a 14-4 decision to High Point's Ella Poalillo in the quarterfinals. White earned her first collegiate fall in the consolation round of eight as she pinned Elmira's Leslie Monterrosa. White got a second fall against Sacred Heart's Jullia MullaneÂÂÂ in her second consolation match. In the consolation round of four, White won a thrilling match against ESU's Angelina Hiller 12-11 to earn a spot in the fifth-place match. White fell to Elmira's Zoey Lints in the fifth-place match to finish sixth in her first collegiate tournament.
At 109 pounds, freshman
Faith Warner picked up the first win in Spartan history with her 11-0 major decision win over Western New England's Gianna Hernandez in the very first match of the tournament. Warner then fell to Tiffany Stoshak from Wyoming Seminary in the round of 16. Warner fell to Sacred Heart's Taylor McCormick in her first consolation match to end her day.
Freshman
Rebekah Patzke went 2-2 at 155 pounds in her collegiate debut. Patzke won her first match with a fall over Cedar Crest's Draydon Charman. After a loss to Sacred Heart's Madison Sandquist, Patzke pinned Lincoln Memorial's Jenna Blinkiewicz for her second win.
Freshman
Naylee Ierley earned her first collegiate win at 136 pounds as she pinned Alvernia's Shelby Norris. Ierley finished the tournament 1-2.
Emma Lavalle recorded a win in her first bout as she pinned New England College's Karime Camarena-Tejeda at 191 pounds. Lavalle dropped her next two bouts to finish 1-2 on the day.

Katelyn Coldren also participated in the tournament for the Spartans.
York returns to action on Wednesday, November 15 when they make their home debut against Delaware Valley in a dual meet. The action at the M&T Bank Fieldhouse is slated to begin at 6:00 pm. The match is a part of a Spartan doubleheader as the men's match against Delaware Valley will follow at 7:30.
