YORK, PA – The York College women's golf squad capped a successful fall campaign on Sunday with a tie for fourth at their own Spartan Fall Invitational played at Royal Manchester Golf Links in York.
The Spartans shot a two-day total of 659 as they tied with Randolph-Macon. York shot 329 on Sunday after a 330 on Saturday. Lynchburg cruised to the team title as the Hornets shot 633 for the weekend with scores of 318 and 315. Christopher Newport placed second at 642 while Alvernia finished third at 644.
Sophomore
Grace Strickland led the way for the Green and White as she tied for fourth with a two-day score of 155. Strickland shot 79 on Saturday but bettered that by three strokes on Sunday with a 76. Strickland tallied three birdies on the round as she shot 37 on the front and 39 on the back to lead York. Strickland finished the fall leading the Green and White in scoring average at 79.44 strokes per round. Her 76 on Sunday was her low round of the fall as she notched her third top-five finish of the campaign.
Sophomore
Tori Blanc was York's second place finisher as she completed the tournament with a score of 160 to place ninth. Blanc shot 78 on Saturday and then had to deal with a balky putter on Sunday as she carded an 82. Blanc shot a pair of 41's on each nine for her 82. The sophomore finished her fall with a scoring average of 80.89, good for second on the squad.
Freshmen
Lily Davis and
Victoria Jolakian were tied as York's third finishers for the tournament as they tied for 18
th with a score of 172. Davis shot 83 on Saturday and then carded an 89 on Sunday. Jolakian posted a 90 on Saturday but shaved off eight strokes on Sunday with a season-best 82.
Sophomore
Jessica Shay was the Spartans fifth starter in the tournament as she finished tied for 36
th with a score of 185. Shay shot 91 on Sunday after a 94 on Saturday.
The Spartans had five players compete as individuals in the tournament.
Evelyn Stahl led that group as she placed 30
th with a score of 177. Stahl shot 83 on Saturday followed by a 94 on Sunday.
Brooke Zajac finished tied for 33
rd with a score of 181. Zajac shot 86 on Saturday followed by a 95 on Sunday.
Freshman
Rachel Koengetter made her collegiate debut this week with a 41
st place finish, concluding the tournament with a score of 189. She shot 94 on Saturday and 95 on Sunday.
Vivian D'Orazi finished 43
rd with a tournament total of 191 with a 92 on Saturday and 99 on Sunday. Senior
Olivia Schenk rounded out the Spartans in the tournament as she finished tied for 47
th with a total of 202. Schenk had a 102 on Saturday and a 100 on Sunday.
The Spartans are now off until March when they will return to the course to open their 2024 spring campaign. The spring schedule will be released in mid-November.
