YORK, PA – The York College women's golf team sits fifth of eight teams after the opening round of the Spartan Fall Invitational at Royal Manchester Golf Links in York, PA on Saturday.
The Spartans opened the tournament with a round of 330 as they are 15 strokes back of tournament leader Christopher Newport. The Captains shot a 315 in the first round. Alvernia is second, just one stroke back of CNU, at 316. Lynchburg sits third at 318 followed by Randolph-Macon as the Jackets shot a 327.
Sophomores
Tori Blanc and
Grace Strickland led the way for the Green and White in the opening round. Blanc shot a six-over-par 78 as she fired a front nine 39 and a matching 39 on the back. Blanc is tied for fifth as she had one birdie for the round on hole number nine. Strickland is tied for ninth as she carded a seven-over-par 79 on Saturday. Strickland shot 38 on the front nine and a 41 on the back. She picked up the lone birdie of her round on the third hole.
Freshman
Lily Davis was York's third finisher as she tied for 16
th with an 11-over 83. Davis shot 42 on the front nine while she tallied a 41 on the back nine. Davis did record a birdie on the 11
th hole. Fellow freshman
Victoria Jolakian was York's fourth scorer as she shot 90. Jolakian carded a 44 on the front and a 46 on the back.
Jessica Shay was York's fifth starter and shot a 94 for her round. Shay shot matching 47's on both nines for the Green and White.
The Spartans had five individuals play during the tournament.
Evelyn Stahl led the Spartan individuals as she shot an 83 with a 41 on the front and a 42 on the back. Stahl is tied for 16
th and had a pair of birdies on her round.
Brooke Zajac shot an 86 to tie for 23
rd.
Vivian D'Orazi completed her round with a score of 92 while
Rachel Koengetter made her collegiate debut with a 94. Senior
Olivia Schenk completed her round with a score of 102.
The Spartans return to Royal Manchester on Sunday morning at 9:00 am with a shotgun start. Sunday will close out their 2023 fall schedule.
