Box Score 2 YORK, Pa. - The No. 3 seed York College softball swept No. 7 seed Lebanon Valley Saturday in the MAC Commonwealth Semifinals at Spartan Stadium.
Team records
Lebanon Valley 16-16
York 16-9
Game 1
York 15, LVC 4 (5 innings)
WP: Shyla Pastore (7-3)
LP: Erin Sinatra (2-2)
How it happened
The Spartans busted open a four-run lead in the second inning, scoring all four runs with two outs. The bases were loaded for Natalie Decena who roped a three-run double off the right-center field fence, just inches away from a potential grand slam. Alyssa Harhigh then singled through the left side to bring in Deceana to cap the rally.
York opened up an 11-run lead in the third with seven runs on four hits. The rally began with back-to-back bases loaded walks before Harhigh brought in two more on a single. A wild pitch brought in another Spartan run, while Daphney Adams and Taylor Lindsay accounted for two more RBI later in the inning.
A Harhigh three-run homer in the fourth inning swelled the Spartan lead to 14, putting the Spartans well in position for the run rule. The Dutchmen scratched three runs across in the top of the fifth, but it was not enough as York wrapped up the game one victory.
Aside from the fifth inning rally, Shyla Pastore and the Spartan defense dominated the Dutchmen offense. Pastore surrendered just one run on just four hits and stranded seven LVC runners through the first four frames as York played error-free defense during that span.
Game 2
York 6, LVC 0
WP: Shyla Pastore (8-3)
LP: Jordan Walter (6-8)
How it happened
Shyla Pastore broke up LVC's no-hit bid with a lead-off double in the third. The Dutchmen recorded two quick outs, but Elle Meyer came through with a clutch single up the middle to bring in Pastore for the game's first run.
With runners on second and third and two outs in the fifth inning, Daphney Adams roped a two-run through the left side as the Spartans took a 3-0 lead. The Spartans used two-out lightning again in the sixth inning as Alyssa Harhigh busted things open with a two-run double to give York a 6-0 lead.
The Spartans defense turned a pair key double plays, one in each of the sixth and seventh innings to secure the shutout victory.
