Box Score 2 YORK, PA – The York College Spartan softball squad suffered their first doubleheader sweep of the year as Stevenson captured a pair of wins at Spartan Stadium on Saturday. The Mustangs won game one 9-6 in nine innings and completed the sweep with an 8-5 win in the nightcap. The Mustangs improve to 13-5 overall and 9-3 in the MAC Commonwealth. The Spartans fall to 8-4 overall and 8-4 in the league. The Mustangs took three of four in the weekend series.

How It Happened:
• The Mustangs opened the scoring with a two run first inning, marking the first time this year York has allowed a first inning run. The frame started out with two quick outs but Morghan Fulton doubled to start the uprising. After a walk to Kat Perea, Megan Hamp ripped a double off the top of the fence to score Fulton and Perea for the 2-0 lead.
• The Mustangs got two more in the third on a walk, a hit, an error and a wild pitch as they led 4-0.
• The Spartan got three runs back in the bottom of the third thanks to a pair of hits and two big Mustang errors that allowed York to get back into the game.
• Stevenson had a third two-run inning in the fifth as Marissa Heuer ripped a two-run double to right field as the Mustang lead grew to 6-3.
• York tied the game with a three-spot in the fifth. Alyssa Harhigh scored Elle Meyer with an RBI single. Daphney Adams then singled home Harhigh, who had advanced to second on the throw to the plate in attempt to get Meyer. Adams came around to score on another Mustang error as the game was tied at six.
• The Spartans got a huge play from pitcher Shyla Pastore in the eighth as she walked the lead off hitter. After a ground out moved the runner to second, Pastore stabbed a line drive off the bat of Maddie Bosley, turned and doubled off the runner to keep Stevenson off the board.
• The Mustangs won the game in the ninth with three runs on four hits. Fulton had an RBI single and then Stevenson got a pair of RBI ground outs to take the three run lead.
• York went quietly in the ninth as they lost in extra innings for the first time in three games this year.

Sophomore catcher Daphney Adams led the offense as she went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored … Alyssa Harhigh went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI … Elle Meyer scored two runs as she was 1-for-5 while she also pitched four innings … Meyer allowed four runs, two earned, on six hits with one walk in her time in the circle … Spartan ace Taylor Lindsay lasted just one inning in the game as she allowed two runs on two hits with two walks as she faced seven batters.

How It Happened:
• The Spartans opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as Natalie Decena had a big two-out triple to right to score Ellie Denlinger who singled to open the inning. Decena scored on an Elle Meyer infield single.
• The Mustangs had another big fourth inning as they scored four runs. Morgan Thayer started the Stevenson rally with a booming two run homer to deep left to tie the score at two. Then with two outs, Kat Perea ripped a two run single to center to give Stevenson the 4-2 lead.
• Stevenson added four more runs in the fifth. Morghan Fulton had a big, two run, two out single with the bases loaded and a Spartan error allowed a third run to score on the play.
• York made it interesting in the bottom of the seventh with a three run inning but it was a case of too-little-too-late. Adams had another big double to left center to score two and she came around to score on a throwing error to provide for the final 8-5 score.

Junior Alyssa Harhigh led the offense as she went 3-for-4 with one run scored … catcher Daphney Adams was 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored … Elle Meyer went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the loss … Hannah Vogt came out of the pen and made her first appearance in the circle a successful one as she tossed two scoreless innings with two hits, two strikeouts and a walk during her first outing of the year.
Notes
The Mustangs took three of four for the weekend but the Spartans still lead the all-time series 33-7 … York has now lost three straight for the first time since April 19-27, 2019 when they dropped four straight near the end of the 2019 season … Alyssa Harhigh had a big series as she hit .667 (10-for-15) with seven runs scored, four RBI, a double and a triple for the Green and White … Elle Meyer hit .438 with five runs scored for the weekend … Daphney Adams had a team-high six RBI for the weekend … the Spartans surrendered 26 runs to the Mustangs in the final three games of the series after shutting out Stevenson in Saturday's opener … the Spartans entered the series having allowed just nine runs in their previous eight games … the Spartans walked 23 batters on the weekend after having walked just ten in their first eight games … the Mustangs hit .352 for the weekend while York hit .277 … York stole 10 bases in 11 attempts in the series … Stevenson made 14 errors in four games while York had four miscues.

The Spartans continue their homestand on Tuesday as they host Albright in a MAC Commonwealth doubleheader. Game one is set for a 3:00 pm start at Spartan Stadium. It's the middle two games of a season-high six game homestand.
