Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ANNVILLE, Pa. - The York College softball team wrapped up the regular season in a Sunday doubleheader at Lebanon Valley, losing 9-1 in game one and winning 10-5 in game two.

Team records

York 12-8

Lebanon Valley 14-12

Game 1

LVC 9, York 1

WP: J. Walter (5-6)

LP:  Elle Meyer (1-2)

How it happened

The Dutchmen took advantage of three walks in the first inning and scored five runs on just two hits. LVC got back to work in the third inning with three runs on four hits, highlighted by Julia Forsythe two-run single to give the Dutchmen an 8-0 lead after two frames.

The Spartans got one back in the third inning when Emily Netterville roped a two-out single through the left side to bring in Daphney Adams from third. Hannah Vogt held the Dutchmen scoreless in the bottom half with an inning-ending strikeout with a runner on.

The Dutchmen tacked on one more crucial run in the fourth to take an eight run lead and maintained that lead while holding the Spartans hitless in the top of the fifth to earn the victory via run rule.

Game 2

York 10, LVC 5

WP: Hannah Vogt (2-2)

LP: E. Kelliher (1-2)

How it happened

The Spartans got out of the first inning unscathed as Elle Meyer, Daphney Adams and Emily Netterville turned the 5-2-3 double play with the bases loaded for the first two outs, and got the next batter to ground out for the final out. The Spartans then turned that great defense into offense as they scored four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first, highlighted by a three-run homer by Alyssa Harhigh.

LVC broke up the shutout bid in the fourth inning when a two-out fly ball to right field caught a gust of wind that turned it into a two-run homer. York answered in the bottom of the frame when Kaela Fritz drove in a run, followed by an Adams RBI-double as the Spartans regained a four-run lead, 6-2.

The Spartans worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the fifth with top of the lineup as Hannah Vogt worked a strikeout for the first out and then started a 1-2-3 double-play to end the inning. York built off the defensive momentum and scored two runs in the bottom of the frame with two hits and took advantage of a costly defensive blunder that cost the Dutchment a potential second out early in the inning. The Spartans also capitalized on another LVC miscue on a first-and-third play as York not only scored the run, but also advanced the runner to second safely in the process.

LVC cut the deficit to three runs with three runs in the top of the sixth, but Taylor Lindsay gave York the breathing room it needed as she roped a two-run homer off the scoreboard in left field.

Up Next

The Spartans have secured the No. 3 seed heading into the MAC Commonwealth postseason and will host either Lebanon Valley or Messiah on Saturday in a doubleheader at Spartan Stadium to open a three-game series. The Dutchmen and Falcons are slated to play a doubleheader on Tuesday which will determine the seeding for fifth and sixth place.
