How it happened
York jumped on the Ducks early, scoring on three of their first four free-position shots, including one on the extra-man advantage, as the Spartans took a 4-0 lead less than six minutes into the game.
Following a Chloe MacDonald goal to give York a 5-1 advantage 11 minutes into the game, Stevens turned three-straight Spartan turnovers into goals as the Ducks trailed, 5-3, with 10:11 left in the first half.
Riley DiFiore came up with a big save on a free-position shot late in the opening half, which then turned into a Teresea Matthias free-position goal on the ensuing possession. Madison Marciniak extended the York lead to 7-3 with 2:58 left to go in the first half, while DiFiore made two more saves in the final three minutes as part of her 10-save first-half performance to give York a four-goal advantage into the halftime break.
The Ducks cashed in twice on free-position shots inside the first eight minutes of the first half to cut the deficit to two. Stevens continued to chip away and tied the game, 7-7, with 11:25 left after a pair of goals less than two minutes apart.
Stevens netted the go-ahead goal with 6:08 left following a defensive stop and then held York to just two more possessions the rest of the way to complete the second-half shutout for the victory.
