Box Score READING, PA – The ninth-ranked York College women's lacrosse team closed out MAC Commonwealth play with an 18-2 win at Albright College on Wednesday afternoon in Reading. The Spartans have secured the second seed in the upcoming MAC Tournament starting next week.
The Spartans are now 10-1 overall and 7-1 in the league. The Lions had their five match win streak snapped as they fall to 7-5 overall and 4-4 in the Commonwealth.
Junior Celly Arthur became the 17th Spartan in school history to reach 100 career points. Arthur reached the milestone on the first goal of the game. She now sits tied for 12th all-time in points with 109.
How It Happened
• The Spartans got off to a quick start as Celly Arthur scored off a Jenna Cholowinski pass to open the scoring and kick off a big day for the junior attack. Arthur's goal came at the 27:39 mark and gave York the early lead. Arthur made it 2-0 on a free position goal just under a minute and a half later.
• The Spartans scored three more goals over the next nine minutes to push out to a 5-0 lead. Madison Kurland, Kiersten Blanchard, and Rachel Della found the back of the net for the Spartans to build on the lead. Albright got on the board with a Maddie Taylor goal at the 15:39 mark. The Spartans answered with four straight goals over the final 8:34 of the first half to take a 9-1 lead after one half of play. Cholowinski, Chloe MacDonald, Teresa Matthias, and Blanchard scored goals for York during the late half spurt.
• Arthur had a big first half with two goals and three assists for five points.
• The teams traded goals to open the second half but the Spartan offense seized control of the game and outscored Albright 8-0 the rest of the way. Della had a trio of second half goals while Arthur, Matthias, Blanchard, Savana Sealover, and Mia Alvarez also scored for York. Arthur had a goal and four assists in the second half for the Green and White.
