Box Score YORK, PA – The ninth ranked York College women's lacrosse squad celebrated their 2021 Senior Day in fine fashion as they downed Eastern University 23-0 in MAC Commonwealth action on a sun splashed Saturday in York. The win was the Spartans second shutout of the year.
The Spartans improve to 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the MAC Commonwealth. The Eagles fall to 1-9 and 0-8 in the Commonwealth.
How It Happened
• The Eagles won the opening draw and earned a free position shot on the first possession of the game. Spartan net minder Riley DiFiore made the stop and the Spartans completed the clear setting the stage for senior Madison Marciniak to open the scoring 1:24 into the game for the early lead.
• Eastern won the second draw but the Spartans forced a turnover and converted that miscue into the second goal of the game as Teresa Matthias scored off a Celly Arthur helper at the 26:30 mark.
• Those two Eastern forays into the Spartan defensive third would prove to be the Eagles best offensive chances in the first half. The Spartans ripped off four goals over a four minute stretch to extend the lead to 6-0. Jenna Cholowinski, Marciniak, Ashley Dierolf, and Arthur scored the goals for York as the offense was clicking midway through the half.
• York continued to pepper Eastern goalie Emily Stiles as York closed out the first half with eight more goals over the final 17:40 of the opening half of play. Cholowinski scored twice during the run while Marciniak also scored two more as York led 14-0 at the break. Senior Tabitha Cobb got her first goal of 2021 at the 11:22 mark as the team celebrated with a little extra enthusiasum after the goal.
• The Spartan offense continued to roll in the second half as they tallied nine second half goals. Two second half highlights came when senior defender Lauren Grove scored her second goal of the year and her first career goal at home. Olivia Adelman also notched her first career goal early in the second half for the Green and White.

Senior Madison Marciniak celebrated senior day with four goals and three assists for seven points … the seven points for Marciniak sets a new career high for the senior attack … juniors Rachel Della and Jenna Cholowinski each notched three goals while Cholowinski added three draw controls … Jen Campbell, Ashley Dierolf, and Tabitha Cobb each had a pair of goals … Celly Arthur had another big day with assists as she handed out seven assists to go along with one goal for eight points … seniors Olivia Adelman and Lauren Grove each scored for York as all four seniors scored a goal on senior day … the goal for Adelman was her first career tally … 13 different players scored goals for the Spartans in the win … Riley DiFiore and Bella Garabo combined to notch the shutout … DiFiore had four saves while Garabo had three stops.

The game between York and Eastern was the first meeting between the two schools in women's lacrosse … the shutout is the fifth in school history and the second one this year after York opened the season with a 22-0 win over Wilkes … the previous Spartan shutouts came on March 19, 2016 against Wesley (18-0), April 2, 2011 vs. Hood (21-0), and March 4, 2010 at Dallas (20-0) … the 23-goal margin of victory is the largest in school history … the Spartans were 3-for-4 at free position shots in the win and are now 42-for-72 (58.3%) at FPS for the year … Spartan opponents are just 11-for-38 (28.9%) at free position shots for the year … York has outscored their opponents 117-21 in the first half this year while they have outshot their opponents 234-82 in the first half of their ten games … York has 11 players who have reached double figures in points while 10 players have reached double figures in goals … the Spartans have outscored their last two opponents by a combined score of 48-3 … York had 13 caused turnovers in the win, their second highest total of the year (19 at Wilkes) … junior Celly Arthur has moved into third place on the all-time career assists list … Arthur now has 65 career helpers and is five short of Kim Wayson for second place on the ledger … Arthur has notched a career-high eight points in back-to-back games … Arthur is second in single-season assists with 36 while she now has 50 points for the year … senior Madison Marciniak has reached new career highs with 29 points on 20 goals and nine assists … the Spartans honored their four seniors prior to the game as part of the 2021 Senior Day festivities … the foursome of Madison Marciniak, Olivia Adelman, Lauren Grove, and Tabitha Cobb have combined to go 44-14 during their four year careers … the foursome have been to two NCAA Tournaments, advancing to the Elite Eight in both of those trips … All four seniors scored in the game as they combined for 12 points on eight goals and three assists.
