Game 2
Alvernia 11, York 8
WP: Emma Kropkowski (1-1)
LP: Hannah Vogt (0-2)
How it happened
The York offense exploded for six runs on seven hits in the top of the first. The first 10 Spartan batters all reached base safely, including a run of five-straight hits to open the game. Alyssa Harhigh and Emily Netterville led the way as the two combined for four RBI in the inning.
All the work the Spartan offense did in the top of the first quickly got overshadowed as Alvernia threw up nine runs on seven hits in the bottom of the first inning.
York cut the deficit to two as Harhigh scored in the second inning on a first-and-third play. The Golden Wolves regained a three-run lead in the third on an RBI ground out.
The Spartans left two runners stranded in the sixth and then stranded three more in the seventh. York had a two-out rally working in the seventh as Elle Meyer drove in Deanna Cusumano to make it a three-run game. Natalie Decena worked a walk to load the bases, but Alvernia caught the break they needed as Harhigh grounded out to the pitcher to end the game.
