Box Score READING, PA - The ninth-ranked York College women's lacrosse squad rolled past Alvernia University 25-2 in a MAC Commonwealth contest on Wednesday night in Reading, Pa. The Spartans improve to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the Commonwealth. The Golden Wolves fall to 3-7 and 1-5 in the league.
How it happened
• The Spartans got off to a fast start with four goals in the opening three minutes of the game. Riley Roeder opened the scoring 39 seconds into the game. Madison Marciniak made it 2-0 exactly a minute later. Roeder scored a second goal 50 seconds while Ashley Dierolf tallied the team's fourth goal with 27:02 remaining in the half.
• The Spartans continued to find the back of the net in the opening 16 minutes of the half. The Green and White led 9-1 with 14:39 showing on the first half clock. After Alvernia scored their second goal, the Spartans scored the final four goals of the half to take a 13-2 lead to the intermission.
• Rachel Della kicked off the second half scoring with two goals in the first minute and a half of the second stanza. That started an eight-goal spurt to start the half as Della, Madison Kurland and Marciniak each had a pair of goals in the run. Alvernia's Erika Whitmoyer broke the Spartan spurt with an unassisted goal at the 14:40 mark but York closed out the game with four straight goals to provide for the final 25-3 margin of victory.
