Box Score YORK, Pa. - The No. 7 York College women's lacrosse team opened Commonwealth play with yet another convincing performance in an 18-3 victory over Widener on Wednesday at Kinsley Field.
How it happened:
The Spartans (3-0, 1-0) set the tone early with a pair of goals less than a minute apart inside the first three minutes of play. York tacked on another to take a 3-0 lead less than seven minutes in as Celly Arthur tallied one and assisted on another to lead the Spartan attack.
The Pride (0-3, 0-1) cut the deficit to two quickly following the third Spartan goal, but York rapidly closed the door, scoring three-straight goals to take a 6-1 lead just before the midway point of the first half.
The Spartans surrendered a free-position goal with 16:14 left in the first half, but responded with four unanswered tallies to end the first half. The Pride managed to prevent York from forcing a first-half running clock for the third time this season as they are the only team this season to score multiple goals on the Spartans in the first 30 minutes of play.
The Spartans tightened down the clamps in the second as they cut their turnovers in half and dominated the draw, 10-0. Mia Alvarez led York with three second-half draw controls, while Chloe MacDonald found a groove offensively as she tallied three second-half goals to lead all players with five on the night.
