HOW IT HAPPENED

• Regan Cook put York on top first with a goal less than three minutes after the opening draw, but William Smith tallied two unanswered goals and maintained a 2-1 lead through the first 14 minutes of action.

• York went back on top just past the midway point of the first half on a two-goal run by Madison Marciniak and Meghan Fox, but the Herons responded with a two-goal run of their own to regain the lead with 1:45 left in the half.

• The Spartans were not content to head to the locker room trailing by one as they tallied two goals 11 seconds apart in the final minute. Riley Roeder caused a turnover with 1:14 left which led to the first of the two goals. Fox won the ensuing draw and never relinquished possession as she split the defense and found the back of the net for the go-ahead goal heading into the break.

• After the two sides traded goals early in the second half, York managed to get a stop on the next William Smith possession and Fox found the back of the net for the third time on the day to put York ahead, 7-5, with 23:03 left to play.

• Fox's third was the start of a seven-goal run for the Spartans as they put the game well out of reach. York's dominance on the draw in the second half significantly contributed to the runaway victory as the Spartans won seven out of 10 draw controls in the second half, including five of the last seven.
