HOW IT HAPPENED

• The Polar Bears jumped out to an early lead on a two-run homer with two outs away in the top of the first. The Spartans threatened in the bottom of the frame with two on and less than two outs, but the next two York batters failed to get the ball out of the infield as ONU maintained its 2-0 lead.

• Ginger Lewis silenced the ONU bats through the next two innings, while the Spartan offense came to life in the bottom of third. Alyssa Harhigh loaded the bases after being hit by a pitch, which set the table for Hannah Vogt who came through with a sacrifice fly to left to bring in Natalie Decena as York trailed, 2-1, through three.

• The Polar Bears extended their lead to 4-1 with two runs in the top of fourth on a bases-loaded walk, followed a fielder's choice. York had two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the fourth, but failed to capitalize. The Spartans would capitalize in the fifth as Taylor Lindsay worked a bases-loaded walk to bring in Elle Meyer as York trailed, 4-2, after five.

• ONU put two more runs on the board in the top of the seventh to take a 6-2 lead, but York had one last crack at the plate. The Spartans made a strong comeback bid as Taylor Coon came through with a two-out, three-run homer to cut the deficit to one (6-5), but the Polar Bears managed to retire Decena with a fly out to center for the final out of the game and preserve the win.

• Widener scratched another run across in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-0 lead as the Pride scored on a Spartan error with two outs away.

• In the top of the sixth, the Spartans took advantage of a Widener miscue with two outs as Ellie Denlinger singled to shortstop and Alyssa Harhigh scored from second on a throwing error to give York its first run of the game.

• Trailing by two heading into the seventh, York made one last push at a comeback with two runners in scoring position, but the Pride managed to get out of the jam forcing a ground ball for the final out of the inning.
