How It Happened:
• The Spartans got the season started off with a bang as Madison Marciniak scored off a pass from Baleigh Bradley a mere 17 seconds into the season. Senior All-American Meghan Fox made it 2-0 just over a minute and a half later as she scored off a pass from Teresa Matthias for a 2-0 lead. The Spartan lead grew to 3-0 when Regan Cook found the back of the net for her first goal of the year at the 27:46 mark.
• After the Shorewomen scored back to back goals, Marciniak scored her second goal of the game to put York up 4-2. Collen Keefe scored on a free position shot, trimming York's lead to one with 18:52 left in the first half. York answered with goals from Cook and fellow senior Jordan Conley to take a 6-3 lead. Washington answered with a Lauren Brenner goal but the Green and White ripped off three straight goals to end the half as they took a 9-4 lead at the break. Fox and Cook twice scored the goals to close out the half for the Spartans.
• York outshot their hosts 21-14 in the first half but the Spartans committed 10 turnovers which prevented the score from being more lopsided.
• The Spartans scored the first three goals of the second half as Marciniak and Cook, two more times, scored to push the lead to 12-4. The Shorewomen scored consecutive goals to cut York's lead to 12-6 but Conley ended the game with her second goal of the contest to provide the Spartans with their final seven goal margin of victory.
