Lewis Throws a No-No as Spartans Sweep Lions in CAC Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

YORK, PA – The York College softball squad ran their win streak to six with a Capital Athletic Conference sweep of Penn State Harrisburg on a sunny and breezy Thursday afternoon in York. How It Happened

• The opening game was a pitcher's dual from the start as both Ginger Lewis and Allison Hartman took turns throwing up zeroes. Lewis was perfect through the first four innings of work. The Spartans got the game's first base runner with a Madison Bowen single through the right side with one out in the fourth. Hartman got the next two Spartans to end the threat.

• The Lions ended Lewis' perfect game in the seventh as Erelle Sowers drew a lead off walk. The Lions sacrificed Sowers to second and she then moved to third on a ground to third. Dominique Emmett then hit a sharp grounder to third baseman Shyla Pastore but the freshman made the play to keep the Lions off the board.

• York had a chance to win it in the bottom of the seventh. Joanna Marmo singled and Mia Ruffalo pinch ran for her. After a ground out to short that moved Ruffalo to second, Pastore hit a sharp single to left. Ruffalo made a hard turn around third and got caught in no-man's land as she was caught scampering back to third to end the inning.

• The script for the eighth and ninth innings were the same with the tie breaking rule in effect. The Lions sacrificed the runner to third and then Lewis got the next two outs to get out of the inning. The Spartans got two runners on in both the eighth and ninth and came away empty both times, setting the stage for the exciting tenth inning.

• In the tenth, the Lions tried to squeeze a run home as Sowers was on third with one out. The Spartans got a break as Emily Parmer's bunt went right back to Lewis who flipped the ball to catcher Haley Hirn to nail Sowers at the plate.

• In the Spartans' half of the tenth, Pastore sacrifice pinch runner Quinn Fisher to third with one out. Shortstop Julie Van O'Linda had an epic 26 pitch at-bat in which she fouled off 21 pitches during the at-bat before finally reaching on an error. Savannah Galati then played hero as she got the squeeze bunt down, scoring Fisher with the game winning run as Lewis notched her second no-no of the year.

Nina Bruno then grounded out to second to score Humphrey for the 2-0 lead. York got those runs back with two outs in the bottom of the first. Madison Bowen singled through the right side with two outs and scored when Joanna Marmo blasted a two-run shot deep over the wall in left.

• The Spartan offense kicked into high gear in the second inning. Savannah Galati opened the scoring with a two-run rocket double to right center giving York a 4-2 lead.
