How it Happened:

• The Spartans scored four of the first five goals of the game, to break out to a 4-1 lead with 14:31 left in the first half. Skye Slater started the scoring with just a minute gone in the contest, taking a pass from Devin Hursey and shooting high. Messiah equalized the contest with 26:34 to play in the half, but just 1:19 later, Kayleigh Phillips pushed York back ahead. After nearly nine minutes went by, Phillips doubled the advantage on a free-position shot, and then she assisted on Caitlin Rankin's goal. The Falcons fought back, as they did all evening, scoring twice in succession, closing to 4-3. The back-and-forth affair continued, with Hursey and Meghan Fox each scoring on free-position shots, extending the advantage to three goals again. Juliana Greco and Regan Cook would add goals before the half, giving the Spartans an 8-5 halftime lead. The goal was Greco's first of her career.

• The major turning point came just after the break, when a Falcon barrage led to four goals in the first 9:22 of the half, erasing a three-goal deficit and taking the lead at 9-8. The quick spurt did not phase York, and a goal from Melissa Meehling leveled the score at 9-9 with 18:22 to play. After another goal from Messiah's Courtney Wagner, who would finish with seven, plus an assist, Hursey notched a pair of goals, the second coming with just 4:57 to play. Throughout the matchup, Hursey gave the Falcon defense fits, leading to five points on three goals, both career highs, and a pair of assists. Wagner scored again with 3:10 left, though, to tie the game for the fourth time of the second half, at 11-11.

• Absolute mayhem ensued in the waning moments of regulation, as York desperately tried to pull ahead before overtime was needed. Meehling forced a turnover and picked up a ground ball with 1:04 left. Slater broke through the defense and unleashed a shot with just 39 seconds left, but it went wide. York still controlled the ball and Fox hit the post with 13 seconds left. As the ball bounced around, the clocked ticked under five seconds. Eventually, the ball went to Phillips, whose shot with just two ticks left, bounced wide, forcing overtime.

• York controlled eight of the first nine draws, and led 15-10 in the department for the game, but Messiah controlled the biggest one, to begin overtime. Forty-three seconds later, Wagner scored her seventh of the game, earning the win for the Falcons, 12-11.
