Box Score 2 YORK, PA – The York College baseball team snapped their three-game losing streak in emphatic fashion as the Spartans swept Elmira in a non-conference doubleheader at Jaquet Field on a sunny but crisp Saturday afternoon. York won game one 22-10 and completed the sweep with 16-1 win in the nightcap.
York improves to 5-4 overall while the Soaring Eagles fall to 0-7 with the two losses.

How It Happened
• The Eagles took the early lead as the nicked Spartan starter Joel Kenney for a run in the top of the first. Sam Plaugher doubled down the right field line to open the game. He moved to third on a ground out to second and then scored on a Conor Bawiec RBI ground out to second.
• The Spartans answered in the bottom of the second as Garrett Southern singled to third to score Luke Knott with York's first run. Patrick Clement then scored when Grant Oberholtzer singled down the right field line as York took the 2-0 lead.
• The Eagles answered with a two out rally in the third as Bawiec doubled to right center to score Plaugher who walked with one out.
• The Green and White got a pair of runs in the bottom of the third as Jack Barry singled through the right side with two outs. Junior Luke Knott then blasted a home run to deep left on an 0-2 count to put York up 4-2.
• The Spartans tacked on two more runs in the fourth. Clement led off the inning with a booming double to center. He moved to third on a single to right from Southern. Oberholtzer followed with a single to right, scoring Clement with York's fifth run. After a double play erased a pair of Spartan runners, Seth Brosius singled to right to score Southern, giving York a 6-2 lead.
• The Eagles benefited from some shoddy Spartan defense in the top of the fifth as they plated six unearned runs on five hits. Dennis Rudolph opened the scoring with an RBI single to left center. The Eagles then loaded the bases for Bryce Plante. Plante hit a high pop up on the infield but the ball fell almost on top of the mound, allowing two runners to score on what should have been the last out of the inning. Jack Volpe made York pay for the defensive lapse with a three-run homer to left as the Eagles took an 8-6 lead.
• York loaded the bases in the bottom of the fifth thanks to a pair of walks and a hit batter but the Spartans wouldn't convert as they left three runners stranded.
• The Green and White used a two run rally in the sixth as they loaded the bases with one out. Collin Crowell scored Christian Bilan who led off the inning reaching on a hit by pitch. Clement came up big with a two-out double to left center to tie the game at eight.
• After Elmira scored a single run to recapture the lead in the top of the seventh, the Spartans blew the game wide open as they scored 13 runs on eight hits in the inning. The Spartans had three batters plunked in the inning with three others drawing walks.

How It Happened
• The Spartans opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Grant Oberholtzer lead off the inning with a booming double off the wall in right. Zach Hossler then singled to right and moved to second on the throw to third. Seth Brosius scored Oberholtzer with a ground out to second and Hossler scored on a Christian Bilan ground out. The Green and White could have had more as they left a pair of runners stranded in the inning.
• The Soaring Eagles got a single run in the top of the second as Dennis Rudolph scored when the Spartans picked off a runner at first but the throw to get him at second sailed into left field.
• Oberholtzer struck again in the second as he jacked a two run homer over the 16 foot wall in right, giving York the 4-1 lead.
• York blew the game open in the fourth with a seven run outburst. Bilan had a two run double while Jack Barry blasted a two run home deep to right center to power the inning.
• The Spartans closed out the win with five more runs in the fifth as darkness descended on Jaquet Field. The game was called after the inning due to darkness.
