Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FL – The York College softball team split a pair of games on Tuesday afternoon on the third set of games during their 2018 spring trip.
York opened the day with a 9-5 win against Hanover before falling in nine innings to Adrian, 3-2.

How It Happened
• Hanover got on the board in the top of the first as Mackenzie Smith tripled and scored on a McKenzie Writt to give the Panthers a 1-0 lead.
• The Spartans got a pair of runs in the bottom of the second on a bases loaded RBI single from Ashley Werner. Senior Savannah Zittle knocked in the second run with a sacrifice fly as York led 2-1.
• Both teams plated runs in the fourth inning. Hanover's run came on a lead off home run from Shelby Edington while York's tally came on a pinch hit RBI single from Savannah Galati.
• The Panthers put together a three run rally in the top of the sixth as they forged a 5-3 lead. The uprising was aided by a pair of Spartan errors.
• The Spartans answered in a big way in the bottom of the sixth as they scored six runs on five hits with three Hanover errors as York seized control of the game. Zittle had a big two run double while Eryn Bailey added an RBI of her own. Joanna Marmo contributed a two-run single to right to close out the scoring in the inning.

How It Happened
• The Spartans got the scoring started in the top of the second on a Madison Bowen RBI triple. Bowen would get stranded at third as York could only get one.
• Adrian tied the game with a run in the bottom of the third as Taylor Van't Land tripled and scored on a fielder's choice.
• After a scoreless eighth inning with the runner placed at second, the Spartans got a single run in the top of the ninth as Haley Hirn had a sacrifice fly.
• The Bulldogs tied the game on a Spartan error before they loaded the bases with one out. Adrian won the game on a Lindsey Branscum single as the Spartans dropped their third one-run game of the year.
